What size tires fit stock 16" wheels?
I have a 2000 TL with the stock 16" wheels. I would like to see if anybody has any experience with what size tires would fit on these wheels. I saw that somebody said a 215/55R16 should fit.
Does anybody know if the 225/50R16 fits?
Thanks.

205 mm X .6 = 123 mm;
225 mm X .55 = 123.75 mm.
My question was more about the tread being wider. Granted it's only 10mm on each side, but will it rub anything on the back side of the brake calipers?
Thanks.

We really haven't found a whole lot of alternate 16" tire sizes that will work properly on that car. The stock 205/60-16 and 215/55-16 are the only sizes we recommend. There's not a lot of room to play with.

So this is what I ended up getting:
I want to stay with 16" because I want the smallest wheel size that will clear the brake caliper to reduce mass, and thus rotational inertia.
For the front, I chose the Mille Miglia Action 16"x7.5". I could go with the smaller 16"x7", but I think the 7.5" can fit wider tyres more comfortably
For tyres, I went with the Yokohama A032R in 255/50R16. I chose the Standard Load Hard-Compound. I'm hoping I could get a little more life out of them at the sacrifice of grip
For the rear, I decided to stay with the stock wheels, the 16"x6.5" JJ. I'll stay with the 205mm tread width, and for now I'll run the stock 205/60R16. I'll see how that works out. Maybe I'll change to the shorter sidewall, like 205/55R16 or 205/50R16. I haven't decided which compound to run just yet. For now I'll be running the stock Michelins until they wear out or explode
Thanks for everybody's help. I hope that this will work out. I'm having an extremely difficult time setting up this car, namely because nobody sets up a TL, but it wouldn't be fun without a challenge.
Thanks again

im sorry but what the hell are you thinking?
ive had 225 55 on the stock wheels for 130+k never once rubbed
and you do realize the tires you are hoping for good life are "R" compound tires that will probably last 2-3000 miles of street driving???

Who on here races their TL? Please let me know because I have some questions for them. Maybe they can help me out.
After talking it over with some people, I decided not to go with the Mille Miglia. Instead, I'm ordering Kosei K1 in 16"x8.5". It'll take a few months to get but it'll be worth the wait.
I'm going to run the A032R in 255/50R16 on all 4 corners for roadracing.
For drifting, I'm going to run the A032R in the front and the stock wheels with 205/55R16 AVS in the back. Or I could do low speed donuts by putting 2 spare tyres and wheels on the back. It throws the back around very easily at parking lot speeds
For street, I'm running Yokohama AVS dB S2 in 225/50R16 on the stock wheels. I run them on all my street cars. Probably the best all-season tyres you can get.
Cheers!

As for a nice car, I just bought an '05 RL in Premium White Pearl and the black Parchment leather. That's my good car.
I want to run the TL because people keep telling me I can't. I want to prove everybody wrong. The TL is heavier than most, so the weight transfer will be huge compared to my Civic, but I think it will be a very fun drift car if I can get the right suspension under it. It's a little on the soft side as is.
People will be in their stripped out drift car, while I'll be sitting in leather, opening the sunroof, and listening to my Bosse system

theres not even a ebrake handle to fishtail the front drive TL out to drift, guess we will be seeing our first TL with an aluminum wing and no fear stickers. Time to search more interesting threads
