Tires leaking air / oxidized rims ?

After replacing worn tires with new ones, it appears as though air is leaking around the rim. I have the factory 2000 alloy wheels and new valve stems installed. After taking it back to the tire shop, they said the aluminum was oxidized and causing the leaks. Even after they "cleaned" the rims, a couple of the tires still have a slow leak. If anyone has experienced this issue ....what can be done to help fix the tires from slowly losing air ? Thanks for any assistance !

Yes I have. The tire shop had to dismount the tire, grind (not clean) down the corrosion at inside the rim edge, apply sealant, and remount the tire. Haven't leak air around the rim edge since.

We use a 6" grinder with a coarse, twisted wire wheel. It's easier to do on the tire mounter turntable; it rotates the wheel while you stand there with the grinder. The wire wheel is coarse enough to get the corrosion off without having to use sealer. Not a big fan of the sealer unless absolutely necessary.
