Tire sizing / front clearance

I realize this seems a rather strange question, but what is the largest diameter size of tire anyone has experienced on their TL. I still have the "OEM" stock alloys on my wife's 2000 TL, with factory recommended 205-60-16's. I'm attempting to go up a size or two for smoothing out the ride. Trust me the extra sidewall in the tire does help. So, has anyone tried 215-60/65-16 or maybe 225-60-16's ? Just wondering how critical the front clearance is with a taller profile tire. Thank's !!!

the stock rims look fugly as hell already with the big ass tire....be careful no to throw the speedo off if u decide to go any bigger on your tires....

Basically, I'm just too cheap to replace all the struts and suspension parts on a 9 year old car with 150,000 miles and the original tranny. Appearance is secondary if I can get a smoother ride out of my wife's "family" car. I realize that the speedo will be off some, but from what I understand.........the TL's speedometer/odometer readings have some discrepancy even with the recommended tire size.

your comfort is as good as it gets with stock wheels and the tires it has...those are the recommended specs for it...with that many miles it doesnt matter if you put pillows on your seats the ride is goin to be rough becuz ur shocks are pretty worn out....maybe even blown...with the money ur gonna spend on the tires i would spend it on some stock replacement shocks if ur tires are still good.

225/55/16 is very close to 205/60/16 as far as rolling diameter. I've had 225's on my stock 16's for over 3 years and no issues, but my suspension isn't stock either.
