It is possible to put 225's on a 6.5" rim.

If you're running the stock rims, 225/55 is what a bunch of people here run.

My next set of tires will be 225/55/16 on the stock rims.

225 what? The series will play a large part in determining fitment. i.e. 40, 45, 50 etc.

waiting for authoritative input from Lawaia.

a tire shop told i can't put 225/50 on a 6.5 rim.
and he said a 7 inch rim was pushing it.

that is why i started this thread.

many people have done it...no tire shop will recommend it because it is really pushing it and they dont want to be liable if anything happens. PM fsttyms1, he has done it for a while with no problems.

Joseph....you may as well tell that tire shop to take a hike. 225/50-17 will safely mount onto wheel widths between 6-8". Again, the taller sidewall will provide for greater range of wheel width fitment.

For example 225/50-17 will fit on wheel widths between 6-8". On the other hand, 225/45-17 which is the same width but a shorter sidewall will fit on wheel widths between 7-8.5"...a big difference huh.

So you'll be just fine with mounting those tires on a 7" wheel.

it seems it would be the opposite.
50 percent of 225 is greater than 45 percent of 225.
so the 225/50 could be used wider than a 225/45.
because there is more sidewall to cover the width.

but thanks for the reply, Lawaia.
