A general rule of thumb is to inflate to 80% of the max pressure stated on the sidewall of the tire. Best bet is to contact the tire manufacturer and ask them what the ideal pressure would be for your particular application (ie 2000 Acura TL).

I have Toyo Proxies4 235/40/18 as my summer application. Max pressure says 51psi on the sidewall -- 80% of 51 = 41psi (approx). But I've been known to go about 43-45psi when I go on the highway.

I usually go with 35psi, you have to give the tire some room to rebound when you hit a pothole. Plus you get a much more smoother ride.
