Time for new tires & bummed my current ones aren't available...

... at 45K miles, I replaced the terrible stock MXV4s with Bridgestone Potenza RE950s, upsized to 225/55 R16.

Well, 72K miles later (on 30K mile "guarantee" RE950s) and lots of fun and great handling, it's finally time to move on.

Today, I call Tire Pros and they tell me Bridgestone no longer makes the RE950, which I planned to buy again.

Looking for recommendations, specifically Bridgestone Potenza performance type, which I"m now a big fan of.

Paid $125 per for the RE950s and would like to stick near that price point.

Any recommendations would help! Thanks in advance...

If you're big into Bridgestones ... why not go with the G009? High-performance all-season tires ... same market as the RE950. Tirerack has them in the size you want.

Thanks for the recommendation... only other one I've seen a few times here is the Yokohama Avid V4... any idea how they compare?

Also, in SoCal, I don't really need all season tires, as we just have a couple months a year of rain and then it's basically dry roads all year. Not sure if that would change your G009 recommendation or not.

Thanks again...

I also switched from the stock Michellin MXV4's to the more aggressive Bridgestone Potenza RE-730 225/55-16. I had installed the Comptech sway bars earlier, and it proved that the Michellin's did grip well even with flat cornering. The new RE-730's really grip the road. In fact a couple years later, I started to notice very poor grip on left turns. When we put the TL up on the rack, we discovered that the rear sway bar bracket on the passenger side had torn almost in half! Perhaps too many hard turns put too much stress on the rear sway bar bracket. After I had it fixed, I later heard that these brackets were recalled, but too late for me to get reimbursed, since I fixed them myself.

Anyway, I've put a little over 40K miles on these tires and its time to replace the Bridgestones. The Potenza RE-730's are no longer made, so I'm also looking for a replacement set of tires for Ultra High Performance summer or all season driving. My only regrets on the RE-730's was the tread noise on the gen 1 design. I had one replaced due to a road hazard with the 730 gen 2 tread which was a bit quieter. Anyone try the Bridgestone Potenza G009's? Are the sidewalls too soft so not steering response? Anyone try the Dunlop SP Sport 9000 or the BFGoodrich Traction T/A?

well, I went for the G009s... working well, but think the old RE-950s were better handling... the G009s seem a bit softer in hard turns... then again, still on the standard struts and shocks, so with 6 years and 120K miles, maybe that's the difference and not the tires???

BridgeStone has a nasty habit of frequently discontinuing its tire models, such as RE730, 940, 960, etc. This is not good if you want to replace just one damaged tire a few years down the road, because then you are forced to replace all four.

G009 are a harder rubber compound (wear rating 460 VS RE950 wear rating of 400) so that may be why the tires feel a bit 'softer' on turn ins. Plus, you're on brand spanking new tires ... there's a lot of oil in them. The 950 you had are really worn down so the dry grip would be amazing (at the expense of increased hydroplaning in the wet and increased noise due to less tread).

Hopefully, after you've worn them in a little more... grip will improve.

I had toyo t1s (on 225/45-17) hankook HR2 (235/45-18) and Yokohama H4S (205/60/16) .. toyo t1s where the best .. i cannot really say between HR2 and H4S as they are not the same size but i think its about the same thing.. i hope V4S are better than H4S and HR2 ..

http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tires...e=searchbysize Id go with that 960 poles or the 750's, they are both great tires and you will get great performance out of them as well
