tein ss coilovers issue..

so i finally got around to TRYING to install some tein coilovers i bought from someone on here a long time ago.. figured id take care of the front first since they are cake.. so i put the perches roughly 4 threads from the bottom on both sides and dropped the car.. it sat on the fucking GROUND and tucked the tire.. NOT what i wanted.. i proceeded to raise the perches a few threads about 3 more times until its now damn near the top of the threads.. dropped the car down and its STILL lower than my comptech springs were.. WTF?..

is there something new i need to know about installing these or what?.. are the struts crapped out maybe?.. i was really looking forward to finally getting these on so i could even out the drop on my car and make it a bit stiffer.. now after hours of bullshit, im right back where i started..

thats really weird...cuz the SS should not tuck tire in the front at that level.

go to MrHeelToe and look up the tein setting specs and install directions
You measure up from a point at the bottem of the shock and set the perch there
It results in about 1.5 to 1.75 inch drop- roughly 2 fingers clearance tire to fender lip
www.heeltoeauto.com
teinusa.com will have the part numbers to confirm

when you raise the lower perch you must use a spring compressor to take the weight off them- otherwise binding can occur

on the shocks themself- turn the small adjuster on top all the way right- clockwise,
thats full stiff dampening
Now go counter clockwise-left- a max of 16 clicks- thats max soft setting
about 8 of 16 is where most of us start with the adjustment and go a few up or down from that as desired
Do not go lower than down 16 or you mess up the shock

Once you get the spring height set you will need an alignment
Camber wil be neg past limits but if less than 1.5 neg its fine-
set the toe and let it go~

didnt realize that you were supposed to go all the way to 16 FIRST, then go down.. maybe thats the issue.. that theres basically nothing in the strut?.. i dunno.. i sent a PM to MrHeeltoe pointing him to this thread..

another thing.. there isnt some sort of "adapter" or anything for between the spring and hat right?.. the tein springs have an obvious smaller diameter than the regular springs..

so after looking around online, i found a site that had the .pdf of the install directions.. so it looks like thats the only thing i didnt do was to tighten the damper screw first.. hopefully thats the problem..

and just to make sure.. i adjust the dampening when the car is still in the air right?.. seems like the obvious thing to do, but just checking..

a picture of your strut assembly.
maybe a piece is missing or in the wrong place or not sitting right.

do you have the installation manual from tein's website for the 98-02 accord?

if the springs on em, have the code J070-HAC1, then you have the shorter springs.

i was gonna suggest this becuz theres something very wrong if they're tucking with the perches all the way at the top, mine are all the way on the bottom and theres no gap, no tuck

Blown shocks are not the problem. It likely has something to do with the springs being incorrect. I really don't see what else it can be.

The rear springs are always a smaller gauge on FWD cars. The fronts need to be significantly heavier than the rear.

BTW, calling me or emailing might have gotten you an answer faster, just fyi. I wish I would have been able to answer sooner!

makes sense -the front of the car weighs more, and under braking- more force and weight is transferred to the front shocks
70 percent of braking force is from the fronts

Imagine if you had softer springs in front- the nose dive would take off the lower skirt~

those have "HTC" after the "G040".. mine have "DPC".. difference?

and there was no huge hurry because i wouldnt have had the time to swap them all out anyways.. i just threw the comptech/tokico combo back on for the time being..

much appreciated though.. huge sigh of relief that they arent screwed up or something..

oh well if you did look at the pdf; they have dimensions for each assembly (front and rear) and its obvious that the smaller springs go on the rear as with most all fwd cars.

actually on the .pdf instructions, it says nothing about the spring sizes.. the values they give are for setting the perch at a designated starting point and measuring how far the wheel/tire is from the fender.. the only thing that might show size of the spring is in the exploded diagram of the spring/strut assembly where it has the "070-090-L250" and "070-100-L250" on the different springs.. both dont correlate with any numbers on the springs..

so after going out and verifying yet again, i still didnt believe that those were the rears.. i looked at the rears when the car was jacked up in the front and the diameter of the spring looked way too large, which is why i chose the springs i chose to put on the front.. after checking against my stocks, i realized that the rear springs actually taper IN as they go up, creating a LOT smaller spring diameter where it meets the hat.. so now i have fully verified that i simply had the springs backwards and they are the correct ones..

thanks for all the input.. it was much appreciated..
