You don't nn the pillow ball mount for the EDFC to work. I know that TEIN is about to release a PBM for our model SS. I have thought about doing this mod with the EDFC, but I just don't change my settings that often, so it's not worth the money and the custom installation that I would want to do.
Good luck

I have the Tein SS without the Tein pillowball mounts AND I have the EDFC installed. The EDFC works fine - I don't adjust the settings often either, but the EDFC is more for convenience. Without it, its a pain to get to the rears and adjust the dampening.

On the TL, the EDFC will work with Tein SS. You don't need to get the SS-P (with the pillow ball mount).
As for the tools needed.... I see that you have a 2002 with no apparent suspension mods (from your signature). Every bolt and nut in your suspension is most likely seized, and it will be a royal pain in the ass. If you have air tools, then be careful when using them because you don't want to apply too much torque to the bolts/nuts. But all you really need is just a couple of racheting wrenches, a torque wrench, and maybe a big pipe to slide over the wrench to apply more power when getting bolts/nuts out.
Get a can of PB Blaster and spray it on the bolts, and let it soak in for like 15 minutes. It helps a lot. Get a friend or two to help, as well. It's really hard to do by yourself.
