street tires for the drag strip? looking at these 4...

i have been on the fence over what tires to get for like a week now ... i'm mainly looking for good grip for the strip. willing to sacrifice some winter performance & not overly concerned about tread life. surely these aren't the greatest but im on somewhat of a budget. i am looking at these 4 - hankook rs3, hankook v12 evo2, bf goodrich g-force sport comp 2, & dunlop direzza dz101 ... are any of these 4 going to be significantly better than the other 3 choices? or are all pretty similar traction/grip wise? btw i don't have anything special just a stock 2000 tl non-s with stock 16" wheels (went to track last week 1st time ever with 30% tread left cheapo all seasons purposely to just see how car performed before doing absolutely anything to it - 1st "mod" lol will be new tires)

first, your tire selection is ranging from all seasons to summers.

the only summer tire in your list is the Hankook RS-3's.
Which is one of the better summer tires without going to a dedicated slick.
the RS-3's are comparable to the Nitto NT05's and Direzza Star specs Z1(which are discontinued)
these three tires will trump ANY THING in your list being a "Dedicated" summer.

the others in your list are just all seasons.
The RS-3 comes with a tread rating of like 200 or something low. DONT EXPECT long life from them.

Ive tried the nitto NT05's and am currently on the Direzza Star spec Z1's and after these wear out, I will move to the Hankook RS-3's

while these 3 summer tires that I listed have a water evacuation tread built in, they are okay for rain.
the Nitto Nt05's came with less tread stock...these were the worst for rainy days.
the direzza star spec Z1'S are okay in the rain....safe driving and no hooning in the rain, or else....

and I havent tried the RS-3s yet.

but again these are strict summer tires. they need a little time warming up, especially the Nitto NT05's.

the Nitto NT05's were great but had lots of drawbacks that I wouldnt want to wish on a noobie.

it took a couple of rounds for the NT05's to heat up, which means you dont have traction until they heat up.
mornings are HORRIBLE until they are well warmed up.
this means you wont be able to stop for the first 10 mins or so of your commute. you'll be sliding around.
2nd, they were some of the most temperamental tires ever!!
meaning, you need to have them spot on with air pressure.
too little, you slide...too much you lose traction and you slide.
also, the NT05's came shaved already. this means if you dont have the air pressure perfect, you'll wear the tire unevenly....and FAST too. I didnt even get a year out of my NT05's
the direzza star spec Z1's are better in a way, that I dont have to be so diligent with air pressure, and it doesnt take half of my commute to warm up

and the hankook RS-3s are supposed to be BETTER than the direzza Z1s.

so, I'm suggesting the RS3's.....and not the NT05's...dunno where you saw that I suggested the NT05s...

To be fair is not like the TL-p can shred the tires at the strip you will gain nothing more with tires than a Having a good reaction time for free TBH...

Get some mods; Headers, CAI, Exhaust and when you are burning trough 2nd think about tires... Most Performance Summer tires are Overkill for the TL-p

^agreed.
I run the those summer tires because I want to be able to stop on a dime and corner on rails.
I do have a 6MT and can shred tires at will, butt, acceleration is least of my worries. on the acceleration aspect, the stickier wider tires does prevent wheel hop.
and wheel hop is the killer of mounts, axles, and LSD's..

I don't do much strip at all so having All weather tires is pretty cool (Yokohamas YK580) I can burn all 1st and 2nd and a bit of screech trough 3rd and its sounds and looks great while doing it hahaha..
But I would in no way sacrifice Thread Life just to grip more unless I'm doing 95% Strip with the TL which I don't.

Only once I used performance tires (Yokohamas S.Drive) and I change them in 6 months from brand new which was hilarious and frustrating all at once... I have 2 years now with my current YK580 with rotations of course and they seem to have 45-50% Thread Life still..
