Staggered tire Widths - comments?

I was wondering if anyone has done this or feels it would be a dumb move... I have on my 2000 TLP the 04-06 TL five point wheels. I currently am running 235-45-17 all the way around. I am curious if it would be possible more so practical to use the 235-45-17 up front and put a pair of 245-40-17 on the rear. Would this work, hurt my driving response, what? Any thoughts here would be great!

Im going with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S for tires.

Thanks guys~

It would be pointless. There isnt a need to put wider tires on the rear of a FWD car. And either way, why would you make a lower profile in the rear if the rim is the same size? Im just curious

It wouldnt be a lower profile - its a wider tire. Same sidewall height. I thought she might look sweet sitting on some fat rear rubber. Just fishing for thoughts. Thanks Adam~

40 is a smaller sidewall than 45... I guess you just had a typo?

Actually yeah from behind it probably would look kickass, but wouldnt help you any. I doubt it would effect gas mileage since its not the tires driving the car, but it would probably suck when it came time to rotate them

No prob benny

Don't think theres a point for that. No reason to have wider tires in the back on a FWD car.

I have the Michelin Pilot A/S's 245/40/17 all around, and it looks just as bad ass from the front as the rear. This size is also slightly smaller diameter overall. For this reason especially, I would suggest going same size all around.
Speedo will read about 2mph faster at 60mph.
Excellent tire choice, except when you get 4+ inches of snow.

Overall diameter per Tirerack.com:
235/45/17=25.6"
245/40/17=24.9"
Diff of .7"
or 23 revs. per mile

yes 40 would be a smaller profile if the widths were the same, but since hes wants to go wider the actual sidewall will remain close to the same (qould probably be closer staying with the same profile with that little of change). the 2nd number is a aspect ratio of the width of a tire.

Thank you.... And yes - very close, not exact. the 245/45 would be closer.

Do you have any rubbing at all... I see your on an 05 though, that will be a different story I guess. US 2gens have less to work with. It looks as though a 245-45-17 is the exact diamater as our stock tires. Im wondering if I will have troubles with the width. Im considering a set of TEIN SS Coils..... Dont want to compicate it.

I think 245 may be just too much for our wheel wells

your probalby right, and I already have the 04-06 TL wheels which have a different offset than the stocks she came with. 245 may push it a bit much, but the 235's are fine, I had on instance of rub in the rear on the outter well, but I have a full car of people and was pulling out of a gas station over a big 'ol lip in the pavment... But If I go and lower the ride height, that may be the last straw if I was sitting on the 245's.
Hate tire shopping....!!! Maybe I should just go with the 225-50's - it would be safe....

Well - Im gonna go with the 225-50-17's - I appreciate everyones input on the stagger, the winning argument was the rotation factor! Thanks guys~

Im thinking to go With TIRE # 2. I have 03TLS RIMS. Let me know if its a Good Idea or Should i Go With Tire #3.
One more thing should Take into Consideration, MY Car Drop is 2.1FRONT and 1.6 Rear.

(Sorry for a steal of thread.... im not that far off the topic though :P)

you should stick with a 235/45, or a 225/50, 245 is not a good size for our cars. 245 is too big for a 6.5" wheel
