Shocks or coilovers?

im considering dropping my car which is my DD i need some input on whether i should get shocks or coilovers this is my DD and i drive on pretty mild roads most of the time some small bumps here and there but no potholes. im pressed for money right now and i have a budget of around 650$ im also most likely gonna have my car dropped in the winter as well. id like around a 2 inch drop in the front and 1.5-1.75 drop in the rear what would be better shocks or coilovers if so any brand recommendations would be greatly appreciated

looking at ~$1000+ for coilovers, so with that budget it be springs with separate shocks

idk, personally got the H&R's and Bilstien shocks, only complanint about the spring though is that the fronts have sagged some (to a better height though ), and kinda lucky on the bilstiens with being able to drop the rears down a notch to level out the car

btw: spings have been on 90k+ and 6-7 years already, and shocks about half that (they do seem a little weak already though on some bumps)

well the only reason i was looking at the eibach kit was because it came with everything and had 2 inches of front drop and 1.7 in the back plus it was only 550 which i think is cheap also ive heard few negatives about the eibach shocks im just wondering about the suspenison in the snow

ok with including everything , was thinking of just the springs, but one nice thing about those is that the shocks will have been valved/designed for the springs though

also do they happen to mention who makes the shocks for them

and for snow, about the same as any other lowered suspension, stay on plowed roads as much as possible (or you might get high centered , happened to me once with my old lowered accord, so get a tow starp to go with that kit) and only thing is that the back end will be a little bit happy then stock, so just take it easier till you get use to it in the snow, or you might be having the ends swapping around

Get the Koni SP3 shock with H&R springs. They offer 5 different adjustment heights to get exactly what you're looking for.

I have the regular Koni shocks and wish i had got/waited for the SP3 and H&R sport springs. I have close to 100k on the springs and they are still the same height and ride like the day i got them.

With your budget, getting a set of used coils is an option as well. IMO, coils are always preferred over a separate spring/strut setup.

^ but you gotta always remember that not everyone has the nice sunny weather that lets us not worry about the spring perches seizing up..

anywhere with snow, you gotta worry about it and always keep it cleaned so they won't seize up. spray a bit of wd40.

coating the perch threads with antisieze should help too, but will also eventually wash off too, so would have to reapplied periodically also

, but that does majorily blow though, but the salt they put on the roads does not help at all ethier

we might not have them get as size up as yours from one winter here in colorado, but they also don't put down any salt, instead they use mag-chloride (which stills sucks, but not as bad though), but also we get clear roads (and dry) after a couple of days from when it snowed, so cars get warm enough to clean, and keep clean till the next snow

okay so im gonna go with the f2 coilovers most likely i was reading threads on another forum and people on there said that they had to clean them by taking the coilover off every 3 months but if all i have to do is basic maintenance like spraying with some wd30 so since money is tight im waiting till spring to buy some f2's and have em installed in the summer same with wheels also. so fsttyms1 would you recomend i get the coilovers by F2 or SP3s with HnRs? also the roads here get snow alot and for days but the roads im usually driving on are plowed as for salt we use lots of it with this cause any rust to my under body or any other components considering i will be lower to the ground and anything else i should consider also sorry for the newbie question what all do i need to do this drop with coilovers just dont wanna f* this up

same amout of salt gets sprayed on the underside when lowered, so will still require regular washing to keep from rusting

so ive decided to go with the eibach pro kit item number4041.780 the drop is only 2 inches and 1.75 in the back so not to aggresive plus im prolly gonna be riding on my stock wheels for awhile =/ at least until the summer i think the drop will look fine with some 18s or 19s also i got good feedback from ppl with the eibach pro kit they all loved it and had no issues in the snow when i get enough money i will most likely buy some high end coilovers. any opinions on this decision i will be pulling the trigger on the buy soon
