The Sears guy raped me :(
Last Friday, I blew a tire on the freeway going 70 (75???) MPH. That after having the car for just over a week and confirming that the tires had 40% life on em when I bought them. Anyways, I aint disappointed about the tire going bad. I was looking for an excuse to get new ones anyway.
So I cancelled my Friday night plans and researched tires into the early hours of Saturday to finally set my heart on the Falcons. And since I was running on spare and shivered at the thought of spending the long weekend indoors, I knew I had to get the tires immediately rather than order online. So I look up Costco, Sears, etc for the Falcons. The nearest Sears auto-center (15 miles) was the only place to have the Falcons so I call em, tell em the make and year of my car and they say bring it in. Losing my way 3 times, running out of fuel, nearing frustration and deprived of sleep I reach the place only to find out the guy wont install the Falcons cuz they arent V-rated.
I end up paying $ 825 after 4 tires installed, balancing and allignment as against what I thought I'd be paying with the Falcons - $ 350 ($400 max?)!!!!
Now all I want is someone to tell me that it was worth the $825 for the Michelins and what Sears did was acceptable. Does the V-rating make that big a difference? I am never going to touch 148 MPH!!!! Btw, I have the original wheels and apparently the V rating on Falcons isnt for my wheel size I was told.

Holy crack whore !! I got a set of Toyo Proxies for $95 a piece which includes balanced and installed. Alignment was another $55.
For $825 , did that include bending over? I never go to sears , costco, walmart or any department related for tires service, just go to a strictly tire service dealer where they will mostly likely give you a better deal on some package. Better yet you can bargain with some of them.
Btw, V rated is not really neccessary unless your planning on driving 125mph most of the time. But it will be smoother at high speeds.

You got screwed - V -rating is not that important if you are not an aggresive driver (some would disagree) however, it's really a choice with a lower rating (speed) and you would have softer sidewalls and possible flat spots, when parked - I am surprised he (Sears) didn't up size your tires - if you have a TL 16" rim you would have gotten:
Falken's in 225/55R16 and are a 95 V-rated tire.

Sears is not a bad place you just need to know what you want and tell them - you could have gotten a much better deal going in and knowing what you wanted.
Sears matches any advertised price including t.rack or dis.tires....

For me Sears has never been a good place to buy tires. Love Discount Tire. Hopfully you can take some research back to them and they will give you some money back. Good luck

I did get the warranty. I did do my research and was pretty sure I wanted the Falcons. Infact Costco has a $50 off on 4 Michs but I drove all the way to Sears cuz the guy on the phone told me sure we'll put the Falcons on ur TL. I get there, speak to 2 guys and both say they wont install a non V-rated tire. It's against Sears policy cuz it MAY modify handling and performance. I too wish I could have waited for something from tire rack but I was driving on a spare and really needed to travel a bit later that night. Plus tire rack was out of the Falcons anyway when I looked that day. All said and done, I do feel like I got gang raped.

Hate to say this but Tirerack doesn't sell either Falcons or Falken tires so that's out of the question - I would think about going back to Sears - with a quoted price for the Michs. they should still price match it for you.

That's crazy. I paid for $513 for 4 Falcon 512 z-rated 225x40x18 tires at America's Tire for $513 with tax and lifetime balance and rotation. If I need warranty, just $15 more per tire.

Should have done your homework a little better, plain and simple. If you're not comfortable with what you're buying then walk out, figure out something else. $825 is about right for Michelins, installed and tax and total and all. Michelins are not cheap tires, and Sears is not always the most affordable place to get them. You could have gotten a better deal, but you didn't. That's the Sears guy's fault how?

Missing my Acura's
Always check here before you spend that much on something that most if not all of us have done before. If you had have taken a min before to check with us instead of waiting till you got ripped you would have been alot happier.

I got a set of 4 Michelin PS-2's installed for $850 at a local tire store. Everyone else was charging around $1000 for the same tires. The PS-2's aren't good in snow, but they are awesome summer high performance tires and are much better than the RS-030 tires that came with my 6MT TL. They ride smoother, handle better and are quieter than the HPT's that came with my car. Not cheap but worth the money IMHO.

Lesson learnt I guess. Thanks for the feedback. In hind sight I guess the michs maybe worth the moolah. Im just a bit cranky about the fact that my research on tires went waste since I didnt even get the ones I wanted (or was rather given the impression could have).

I ended up going to the discount tire by my old house and they did it with no problem. I guess it just depends how they feel and how much business they get??
Also when i had my Kuhmo ASX purchased and installed at discount tire. They did a fuckin computer ride match, that i didn't even say i wanted. It was $17 a tire, and I was fucking pissed. But i learned my lesson from that, always ask what the final price is before you get them put on and what gets charged. Fuckin stealers...
