Rubbing With CL-S Wheels on TL???
Rubbing With CL-S Wheels on TL???
I know this has been brought up a lot on other threads but my car is not lowered and all the ones i could find are. What i am wondering will 215/50/17 CL-S wheels fit on on a 1999 TL at stock height without rubbing? What tire size do you suggest to put on? Thanks

Is your car lowered? If so how much?

I know there not much bigger but they are .5 wider. i am trying to buy tires but can't decide because i will be dropping my car in a few months and don't want to waste my money on new tires because they are rubbing.
Should be fine. Just watch out cuz those CL-S rims bulg out while the TL-S rims are more flat so your chances of scraping them up against the curb are higher.
The wider rim is definitely nicer though, the ones on the TL-S are way too skinny at 17x6.5 .. with the 17x7 you can usually put some wider rubber on the rims with no problem.
I doubt rubbing will be an issue for you, but if it is, you could always get your fenders rolled which should cure the problem. Most people I know that have rubbing issues though have got 18 or 19s with 19s being more common.

You should be fine. I don't think the CL-S and the TL-S are signficantly different in suspension geometry. Both rims are +55 offset, just 7" (CL-S) vs 6.5" (TL-S) in width.
You want the stock look? Why not go aftermarket rims if you're gonna pay $$$ for the same size (17") rim but a 1/2" wider?

I've had 2003 CL-S wheels with 235/45-17's on the 1999 TL-P with the Comptech drop and no rubbing. You'll be fine. If you do, it's a minor adjustment by trimming the tabs on the rear bumper that extends into the wheel well. Don't sweat it and go for it.
