Koni, Bilstein are the best.

Tokico, and KYB are stock style replacements that are good.

Ok, I think now that i have 101K on my car and had the HR Sports for about 70K miles on stock struts, i think i am seeing some signs that my struts are nearing their end of life. Not leaking yet, but I can feel the ride quality getting a little worse. I am thinking of going with the Bilsteins so I assume those would compliment lowering springs as well. I believe Excelerate said the "Heavy Duty" version Bilstein was for cars without lowering springs. I guess i really want to know if the bilsteins ride harsher than stock or better than stock with the HR's

I was always under the impression that the "best shocks" would always ride harsher... because that's what you need for the suspension to help improve handling. I never quite got the logic that you could get a more comfortable ride by lowering your car with aftermarket springs / shocks / coilovers. It's a trade off between handling and looks vs ride comfort (hard to have both... or maybe I should say increase both). With that being said, many people PREFER a stiffer ride and so they can justify saying that their setup rides "better than stock". Most of what I've heard is that the "higher end" shocks / coilovers will give you a much harsher ride because they are engineered for performance. It's up to you to decide on what the "best" ride for you is. If you like being able to feel the road more, then the shocks you mention are probably going to get it done for you. But if you're not one for feeling every pebble you run over, you might want to think twice?

Take what I say with a grain of salt - I'm no car expert at all. Maybe wait for more people with real experience to chime in.

Btw, just took a look at some of your pics. Ride looks sick man. Drop and wheels are on point.

Good luck with the search!

Thanks man! I actually had Monroe Sens-a-trac struts on my dropped Honda Accord back in the day...the car was very smooth and lasted forever even with my Eibach Pro Kit...I do like my drop but I want to have as comfortable ride as possible. Mainly because I road trip alot more than I drive the car hard. The Type S rides a little harsher than a TLp anyway, but I had good luck with Monroe's and the car was very comfortable with the bennies of a drop when i pushed it through corners. I bet I could do the same thing this time around, but I was looking for a nice strut that is comparable to a new stock strut with HR Sports on...

Most people have good things to say about the ride with Tokico Blue's..? Plus, looks like they can be found for a bunch cheaper than most other shocks out there...

I saw another member, Remikinz, just put some HR Sports with KYB's on.... maybe ask her how she likes it so far? Even though they might not have broken in quite yet..

My last car with Koni Yellows and H&R rode as good or better than stock. Konis will be going on the car(TL) in a couple weeks.

I have tokico blue's dropped on tein stechs, on smooth roads, car rides .... super smooth, like its on rails, but little stiff on the bumps here and there. I have an 01 TLP. and if you have 101k miles on your shocks, time to change.

I put on Tokico Blues (from Excelerate) a couple of months ago. Had the stock shocks with H&R Sports. The ride isn't harsh - I would describe it as "controlled". They were cheaper than Konis and Bilsteins, but more expensive than KYB GR-2s. Don't regret getting them at all.

If people keep giving the thumbs up to this, it might be what I turn to when my stock shocks go.. Although, I'm hoping they never go... stock ftw!

It'd be interesting to see how long they last.... compared to other brands... I always wonder about the life of certain products vs. others...

meh. i haven't been around for 4-5 years, but i do know how to use the search button. that's kinda how i came around to making that statement...not that i've gone back and checked every post since 2004. 2006 maybe?

but that doesn't even matter. opinions change over time. people usually come and post something saying how much they like their "new setup", whatever it may be. less often, however, are posts about how much they dislike a certain setup or how long certain ones last.

thanks for the friendly advice.

I always thought the H&R Sports with the stock shocks were OK, but with almost 99k on the odometer, I knew it was time to replace them. I've used KYB shocks in 4 of the past 5 cars I've had, with good results, but decided to go with the Tokicos based on the reviews here, and with vendor Excelerate saying that the KYB GR-2s aren't really meant for lowered applications and that shocks/struts like Tokico and Koni are better-geared for lowered cars.

I didn't expect much of a difference between stock TL-S shocks and the HPs, but I was very pleasantly surprised and happy with the HPs. You will be too, I'm sure.
