Question about Rubbing

I put 17s on my TL with slightly wider tread. They ain't the biggest but the DC roads are horrible (hence the reason why I had to buy rims in the first place). Anyhow, whenever I have people in the backseat the rear tires rub during any bump/sharp turn.

Is the solution the suspension, or did my shop screw up the install? I didn't think rubbing would happen with just 17s.

It's not the diameter of the wheel that is causing you to rub. It's the width and offset that will determine proper fitment. What are the specs on your 17" wheels?

rims are motegi MR7. From their website:
PN 2076-7717 17x7 +40 5 1/2 5x100 & 5x4.5 25.5 lbs

I believe the tire is rubbing against the plastic edge of bumper or metal lip of fender. So maybe the wheels sit too far out?

I believe the tires are 215 or 205.

+40 offset is way too low. Best bet is to sell those wheels and get some with a higher offset.

what is the correct range for the offset? And could you recommend tire/rim combo sizes in 17/18? I got 17s because of the potholes around DC but i really want some 18s.
