Putting Wheels/Tires on 00 TL
Hey everyone.
I have a 2000 TL w/ Nav and I finally picked out my wheel I want. I want to go with the Foose Lusso Type 112 Wheel in either 17" or 18". The wheels are all about the same price, its the tires that I am wondering about. I really like the Toyo Proxes tires. They have been great on my previous cars. I am worried though because I went into Les Schwab to get a quote and he quoted me the following:
Foose Type 112 17x7.5 w/ 215/50/17 Proxes TPT all seasons and nuts and blanace/siping/spin. for $2033.12
Foose Type 112 18x8.5 w/ 245/40ZR/18 Proxes all seasons and nuts and balance/siping/spin for $2709.80.
My question is that he didn't know if I could put the 18's on my TL becasue they might rub with how wide the tires are. I like the 18's better of course, but he also said that Toyo does not provide a warranty with the 18" tires but a 65,000 mile warranty with the 17. I do not know anything about the offset or anything, so I am trusting this guys judgment.
Are there tires out there that are just as good in the rain? I drive in the snow and rain for skiing and so I want to know what tires would be good. I hear a lot about the Falkens......I have Michelins on there now and they are ok.
Also what do you guys think about the rubbing? I want to buy the wheels, but all these extra charges add up quick. I have found that the wheels are the cheapest that I can find anywhere even online, but the tires and balance ect is so expensive.
Any advice on tires/tire sizes and offsets so I know what to do would be greatly appreciated. I do not or plan to drop the car at all.
Thanks!
Garrett

The 17" setup would fit fine, granted the offset is at least +45 or higher. Forget about the 18" setup....8.5" is too wide. 8" width maxium with a bare minimum offset of +50.

I dont understand what all this offset stuff means. Is that for the tires? How will I know what the offset is by the tire? Is it part of the 215/50/17 stuff?
Thanks.......I think I will go with the 17x7.5 if i can just figure out what tires are good for the money........

Any advice on brand of tires that have good handling in both rain and snow?
Also what are the best sizes that I should look at?
I want a good brand of tire, but I dont want to spend $300/tire.
