putting 16s on a type s

is it ok to put 16s on a type s? i can get a great deal on summer tires, + winters and 16 inch steelies...

if so, what profile should i put for the winters? 225/60/16?

yes you can put 16s on the Type-S.

225 maybe a little wide. How big is the steelie?

Stock 16s on a TL-P are 205/60-16. If you want wider go with 225/55-16.

Either size will keep you within spec of your Type-S tire diameter (215/50-17)

Also, the stock 16-inch rim is 6.5-inches wide.

Rule #1: You want thinner tires for winter. That way, you have more weight per square inch of tire contact patch = more traction.

Go with OEM 16" TL-P size ... 205/60/16 as blueguava has stated.

Rule #2: Find out the specs of your rim before you post. You have over 1700 posts ... you should know better.

I had 205/60/16 TL-P wheels (99-01 style) during the winter months on my TL-s, never an issue. The car rode very smooth with my snow tires..nice and spongy

sorry newbie here. just bought an 03 TL-S. Live in Boston, so will probably need winter tires although I am an experience driver used to snow when I lived in Canada for a long time!

I was told that a good idea would be to find some old TL wheels and put them on some new winter tires. Can I use any 2nd generation TL wheels from 99-03? What about CL wheels. Thanks,
