Talking Out with the old, in with the new

I'll be the proud new owner of a set of AMR engineering coilovers in the next week.

I'll be getting rid of my D2 coilovers to give the new AMRs a try.

I'll have pics when I get the suspension :-p

It's being assembled at AMRs warehouse as we speak.

The D2 coils will be for sale as soon as the AMRs go in. They could use revalving so they will go cheap.

So, after a long wait, I have some pictures for those of you interested. These will be going on this weekend.

Andy at AMR took amazing care of me start to finish, and I highly, HIGHLY recommend these coils to anyone who wants to get their money's worth. Two words: Lifetime Warranty.

wow they look like quality, do you mind telling us what you paid or what we could expect to pay?

definitely seem like they'd be in the north of a grand region

You'll end up paying between 1,300-1,500 for these including shipping, but trust me they are worth every penny.

You won't get the quality these offer, or the outrageous warranty with any other coilover system. Again, Lifetime. Any problems and Andy will take care of you.

Also, remember, you get what you pay for. These are hand assembled. One set at a time. Expect to wait, but they are worth it. I can't stress that enough.

i dont mind spending $1300 on ANY quality part.. but waiting several months with the money missing out the bank account is another thing.

if i can muster up the patience maybe, but seeing all those sad guys on veesixpee talking about the long wait just makes me not want to shell out the cash...

my other two choices were the D2's or FF2 type 2's.. but i can get those in a couple days...

i'll give it some thought though.. modding for me wont start till mid-summer

Take my advice, stay away from D2. I'm moving from a set of those to these. Again, I can't stress enough the lifetime warranty.

Andy is also very honest, and will keep you updated every step of the way. It takes time, but when it comes to an after market suspension for our cars like this, I'd say it's worth the wait.

Yeah, the quality looks outstanding. I was supposed to have them installed last sunday, but I had to take a quick trip out of town.

So this sunday will be it! I promise, and I'm sorry to keep you all waiting.

And yes, I know I won't shut up about it, but the warranty is what helped sell me on these.

Awesome.

1 recommendation though. Before winter get a motorcycle chain wax (you can get it in a spray can) or something similar and spray the threaded part of the coilover to help protect them. Many around here have had coilover rings snap when trying to adjust them after a winter with the sand and salt abuse. I have seen other members this year here with the same issue this year.

Thanks for the input Kris.

Guys, they are in. Just finished tonight. The ride is amazing. Crushing the performance of the D2 on the Middle setting even. I plan on messing with the dampening tomorrow and setting them softer for the street, but good lord is it an improvement.

I'll update again with more pictures and ride quality after I tinker some more.

Sounds excellent If I was planning on keeping my TL for a few more years I would seriously consider selling my Teins and buying a set of these. You do get what you pay and I have to say I'm not pleased with the fact that after less than 15k miles one of my front struts blew and I was out of their pathetic warranty period.

I noticed you've already listed the price, but could you detail roughly how long it took to have these made for you so that other members know what to expect if they choose this setup.

Can't wait for pics.

I would buy a set now if they would start the manufacturing process with a deposit.

With my set personally it took about two months, but that was do to a manufacturing error mishap. The shock bodies were machined for a 3rd gen instead of 2nd by mistake first time around.

That being said, had that not happened you'd probably have to wait a month tops? If you contact Andy at AMR he can give you a much better idea.

Also, being near the summer months, it might be getting much busier over there, so that might slow things down.

So would you say these coilovers are geared more towards track usage or for daily street driving?

Right now I'll tell you that I moved all knobs from position 4 (middle setting) to 2, and it's not quite a stock ride, but it is darn comfortable. I know these things would not have a problem at the track.

I'd say they are great for both, but I've only been driving around on them for a few days. Once I have the opportunity to track them, I will.
