Oem Tire opinions?

Hey guys
Im debating on whether or not if I should change my rear tires.
Today, I took the car to my mechanic cause the car was bouncy and shaking like hell a
s I went 20mph.
He test drove it and told me that the Rear driver side tire was Swelled up and that the metal strings inside the tire has ripped apart.
And the tire has A LOT of tread left too...
If i dont change it soon, the tire will burst according to him.

Ive been reading through the forums about Oem Tire size and up-sizing it to 225/55/16 but is it worth it? or just stick on getting the 205/60/16?

Im planning on MAYBE getting the 19" g35 OEM rims (they look sick...) but not anytime soon

Also im running on Form@Function type 1s with no finger gap all around
I will post pics of the car soon, just gotta figure out how...

Opinions and thanks

Use photobucket to post pics. They will provide a link that will post the pic directly to this thread. As far as the mechanics diagnosis, did he dismount the tire and look inside to see separating in the materials?? Or maybe a bubble forming indicating the weakening in that spot? It may be the tire but before you toss money at it get this verified because like you said, there's a lot of tread left. Be bad to waste money that needn't be spent. Good luck.

Car's rear a bouncin'~'n shakin'...........!

Hey TunaTheFish, has this problem just come up ? Do ya remember hitting hard on a pot-hole, curb, or rr tracks recently ? It's very possible for a tire to have good tread, but internally have broken separated belts. Usually a bulged area is visible by inspecting the tire closely.

If you're considering upgrading tires to another diameter in the future, consider just buying a regular tire to temporarily replace the bad one until you decide what you really want to do down the road.

3.2Tlc Your right! ugh! Train tracks... now I remember..
And yeah the belts defiantly broke! Its a small bulged area.

Do you recommend the oem tire size then?

If ya got the "oem" 205-60-16 size on the car presently, it would make better sense to only replace the bad tire, especially if all your others are still good. Wait until you've made up your mind with the 19" G35 rims. Start saving your money, because the low profile 19" tires are going to be considerably more expensive than the "oem" size.

As you may already know, with a lowered suspension and lower profile tires, there is an increased risk for damage to the tires and rims. No more hitting the tracks hard !

Thanks!
I'll just keep the Oem tire size then since the rest of the tires has good tread left

The place I usually buy temporary tires is $32.50 with excellent tread!
Practically almost new! thats my

But if I were to do that, would I need a Tire rotation, Wheel Balance or a Wheel alignment? since THAT tire would be different then the rest?

I know you have to do a Tire rotation every other oil change (almost due for a oil change btw)

Hey Tuna, seeing as how this is just a "temporary" fix for now, all that you really need to be concerned with is balancing. Try to match up the replacement tire's tread pattern as close as possible. IE: be careful if directional. I'd suggest keeping the "temporary mismatched" set of tires in the rear. That way your steering won't be affected as much. You may want to consider buying a matched pair at those prices !

As far as alignment, it all depends on how bad things are........personally, if not too bad .....wait for the the new rims to get everything aligned up right at that time. Make sure that the suspension is tight and in good working order up front before doing the 19" upgrade. Then you can get everything tweaked in for your cruising pleasure.

The front of tires still has a good amount of tread left and there both of the same brand soo im fine with that.

I got the temporary tire replaced and it looks like it barely has any traction left but now the car rides smooth

Im still debating on getting 19" or 18" cause im planning to put performance on the TL

What do you recommend?

18s will ride better, give you more choices for tires, and cheaper tires
