New Rotors: Question

front = RacingBrakeSlotted (black hats)
rear = PowerSlotSlotted (black hats)

sweet. my new rotors are here, thanks Mr.HeelToe, but I have a quick question before I slap them on...

RB advertises its rust-proof coating on the black hats, but what about PowerSlot? The black finish on the PS hats is noticeably thinner and scratched (minor) in spots.

Should I coat/touch-up the PS hats to help them prevent rust?

^ dont even painting the rotor surface, it might rust. if you want paint them and the pad will expose the surface you need. i wouldnt worry about it

understand the surface will rust no matter what. I'm talking about the black hats, which are painfully exposed by my skinny wheel seating (you see almost 1/2 inch of HAT).

my fear is the RB's wont rust while the PS will. And I'm not automatically thinking paint as they're painted now. I'm thinking of some kind of zinc, powder, or clearcoat.

ack! one of the RB rotors is scratched too. You can clearly see SILVER metal under the black paint (hat).

Im buying high temp black paint, masking the SURFACE, and painting these mofos. I'm actually kinda shocked just how thin this black coat is. pfft.

rust is normal and wont hurt any thing there. Make sure you degrease the rotor really good before painting.

This will answer your question (hopefully). This is after 2 years on the car. Bought them new. What pads are you running? Make sure you follow the correct bed-in procedure.

the next time the front needs new pads, i'm pulling all 4 off and painting them match the front calipers - flat black grill paint. The rust bothers my OCD, but really isn't noticeable until you're looking right at it.

I just bought a new pair of plain rotors, not slotted or drilled, but they have a couple minor shallow scratches. They aren't machine marks, it's almost looks like they were keyed. Is this common? Do I need to take em back?
