Very few have been able to pull off 20's....19's look amazing in my opinion. Check the pic threads for more on that.
As far as offset goes, I am not exactly sure the best or max you can run, however I'm sure that Jashaa will chime in here, wheels and suspension are more or less his forte.
I do know that most people on here that are running 19's and slammed need a rear camber kit along with rolling the fenders and trimming the tabs.
As far as the lips go, I hear ya. I absolutely love rims with a large lip. Welcome to the boards!

All,
When purchasing rims for a car, there are several specifications to ensure a good 'fit' (ie no need to do any fender mods).
1) rim size
2) rim width
3) offset
4) bolt pattern
Rims range from 16" to 19" for our cars. Any smaller and they won't clear the OEM calipers. Any larger and you will have issues with 'rubbing'. I'm sure someone will say, "I got [XX] size to fit", but seriously -- look at their setup and most will not find that look very appealing.
Rim width and offset go hand-in-hand. Depending on your rim width, you have to watch the offset. The wider the rim, the higher the offset (so it doesn't rub up against the wheel well or plastic tabs of the fender when you hit a bump).
Our TL/TLS come with 6.5" rims with +55 offset, made my Enkei. General rule (but not always the case since there is some variation among manufacturers):
7" rim = +42 offset
7.5" rim = +45 offset
8" rim = +48 offset
> 8.5" rim ... forget it unless you wanna do some custom bodywork for it to fit.
This is only a guideline, not an end-all, be-all. Those who have done suspension work may have to find a higher offset than that posted to make sure their application will not have any problems.
Lastly, bolt pattern -- our cars have 5x114.3JJ bolt pattern. Luckily, many rim manufacturers make this bolt pattern but offset will be your limiting factor.

Make sure you take into consideration how you want your car to look, meaning, do you want to be regular drop, flush, tucked, etc?.. you'll have to look at width and offsets as well. Also do you mind doing fender roll or pulls...
Usually a higher offset is recommended 45+, but just wait till you see some of the replies of members running 30-something offsets haha

basically staying with 9.0 +38 offset (18",19",20") you should be fine.
look into fender rolling, should be pretty easily done. If you want to me more conservative, try 8.5" with +38 offset. That should be good.
Pick a set of wheel you like first, then look if they have the offset and width that's around that range.
Try to avoid using spacers.

OP. Read thru the will it fit thread. Some have had luck (i believe most of them that have lower offset have the 02-03)
Also with the lower offset most have to roll fenders and pull them If your looking for the max you will have to be willing to to that stuff.
