Megan Racing Coilovers REVIEW
Well, I guess I've driven it enough this past week to give a good review. First of all, the reasons why I bought these.
A) cancel excessive rebound from H&R Sports + OEM Struts
B) stiffer ride
C) lower my car even more
this is what the set looks like:
Looks sick huh? Keep reading then.
A little info about these coilovers. These coilovers have 32 levels of damping force adjustment and of course they are ride height adjustable. Both function are completely independent from each other. They also include front and rear pillow ball upper mounts.
Strut levels:
0-8: For race track
9-16: For mountain
17-32: For street
Installation was a learning experience, it took my friend and I around 9hrs to install them. Apart from, not work with the right tools and working 1 wheel at a time, installation should be a breeze. Oh and maybe superhuman strength for those extremely tight nuts and bolts. All we used was: 1 jack, 1 jack stand, ratchet set. I'm sure if I was to install them again it'll take roughly 2-3hrs.
Ok, enough of the boring shit. Now for the visual part of the review.
This is before: H&R Sports + OEM Struts on 18's wrapped with 225/40's, 30psi front and rear.
This is right after istallation: Megan Racing Coilovers on 18's wrapped with 225/40's, 30psi front and rear.
This was 3 days after install, when I slammed it to JDM ride height. Spec's are still the same.
These are comparision pictures as to how low I was.
Yes...That's a Razor cell phone
In this you can tell by the exhaust height.
Most are thinking about rubbing issues right now...am I right?
My rim Specs are 18x7 with 42 offset. I had to dremel out a little bit of the fender tabs in the rear to ensure clearance. Hence I really didn't need to, but just did for safety reasons. The front clears fine. Fenders are NOT rolled. No, I'm not keeping the car like that. It was only for fun for the weekend. I must say I've turned a lot of heads with that ride height. Still turning them even though I raised it back up 1 inch. Just a little tad lower than the first night I had them installed.
Now for the ride part of the review.
The first night I set all 4 struts to 0 to see how stiff it was. I must say its pretty bumpy. I was just cruising around town to get the feel of them. At 1 point I was WOT and I hit a bump in the road that I usually just coast over with total ease, this time my front picked up, caught air, and when it touched down again the car got a sudden jolt of speed(Meaning my tires left the ground, spun faster because of no load or friction). It took me a few a day to get used to the stiffness. On the second day I tried the other levels. The highest I went up to was 12. That setting was 1/4 as soft as H&R Sports + OEM Struts. If you can picture that. Like I said 1 of my reasons of buying these coilovers were to cancel as much rebound as I can. The rebound I had with my H&R Sports + OEM Struts were reeking havoc on my downpipe. So, if you can imagine the struts gradually going softer as the level number gets bigger, but of course it still won't be as soft as having OEM Struts... obviously.
I gave 2 people rides when I was slammed. My settings then were 0 all around. PimpRavi was 1 of them. He says its pretty stiff and bumpy. Now my settings right now are 0 in the front and 3 in the rear. I've given a lot of people rides with that setting. None of them seem to complain, not even the girls. You would think that they'll bitch because its not a normal car. Well, with those settings it seems to even out the load. 0 all around is like riding on a skateboard. While having the the rear softer evens it out. WiErD, but seems to work nicely.
I'm also currently in a groupbuy for those Eibach Sways. I don't even think I need them anymore, but I'll get them just for kicks and complete my suspension package. Anyways, I almost have 0 bodyroll with these coilovers, even with my 0-3 setup. I tested this on twisties with elevation today. The car rides like a rail, hugging the corners like no other. All I can say is, I'll be doing twisties even more now with EXTREME FUN!!! So, for people who are looking for a stiff ride without buying other componets this is the best bet. You won't be dissappointed
If you have more questions I'll be glad to answer them.

Nice pics and good write up!
It nice to see before and after pics. Nice job!
How long does it take to change the settings for the ride height or stiffness? Is it a pain or piece of cake?

Changing the stiffness of the struts are by the knobs on the strut tower. S<--Damper-->H. As for access to the rear, you need to take out the back seats. I will follow up this review with another mod of mine in just a few days. I cut flaps into the rear "dash" thingy(the fuzzy panel by the sub). Then I'm putting window coping around the edge to make it presentable. The same window coping for modded computer cases. By then all i need to do is to lift the flap and reach in and turn. My ride height is easy. My full droop for my suspension has been reduced to 2-3 inches of lift. A few pumps from a jack the tires are lifted off he ground.
