What's a search?
I've run a search and read through about 30 threads regarding these tires. Now I just need to hear the latest opinions on these tires from the current and previous owners.
Kumho ASX
Sumitomo HTR+
Continental ContiExtremeContact
I'm strapped for cash at the moment, and I can't afford to buy snow tires. I was looking at Alpin PA2 and M3, but they will cost about 800-900 dollars. I can get these for like half of that. Size 235/40/18, by the way.
I'm leaning toward the HTR+ because I've heard good reviews for snow traction and handling. I've had the Contis on the Eclipse before and they were alright but I was disappointed with the dry handling; a bit too soft and flexible.
Kumho, Kumho, Kumho... from my home country
, good reviews, good prices although more expensive than HTR+.
So what do you guys think? Let me hear what you guys have to say before I pull the trigger.

I have the ASX on my parent's Volvo. They do not drive like you at all ... they are retired librarians. Plus, I am liking the goods South Korea is making (esp the hotty women).
Will you slow down in the winter? The ASX handle well, are very quiet and have a very long treadwear rating. You still have your Type-S rims? Why don't you use those for winters? (like me) But is your BBK gonna get in your way? You don't want to spoil your Enkei rims are you? (ie due to the salt, etc) Go smaller width for better force/square inch traction. My

Hey rob, I had teh htr+ and they were a great tire, Id recomend them. I also am wondering like derrick, can you use your stock rims with the BBK? If so id possiby do that, id also look for a narrower tire, because it will yeild better traction in the white stuff
My stockers are long gone. I sold them because I had a set of 3G TL wheels lined up, but the deal didn't go through. I don't feel like spending any more time searching for another set, so I've decided to just run the Enkeis. I am moving home this December semi-permanently, and I'll start driving my beater car (finally!!). So the TL won't spend as much time in the snow.
It sounds like I'm down to the HTR+ and the ASX now. I'm hearing good things about both, and to be honest, in my current financial situation, price is going to be a big factor. Haha. We'll see what happens. I really appreciate the feedback, guys.

Had the Contis, they were good, if not a bit loud on road noise, have the ASX now, and like them a lot. Haven't had the Sumitomos, yet.
Net is the Kuhmo is a good tire all around, wet and dry. Hard to give you a snow eval, as we see the white stuff about as often as Haley's comet

hm.. i would take the money and buy type S rims w/ OEM tires on them... i wouldn't want even a grain of salt to touch those enkei's.. i think the black market is selling...?

Haha, it's funny because I have the HTR's in the back and the Kumho's in the front. I used to have the HTRs all around but the treadwear on the front got messed up to bad camber. My suggestion is to go with the Kumhos. $0.02
I've decided to go with the ASX and ordered a set in 225/40/18 size. It was a hundred bucks cheaper than 235/40/18 which is the ideal size to better match the OEM spec. But I just couldn't say no to saving a hundred bucks.
They are coming in on Tuesday, and got 'em for 440 shipped and mounted/balanced at Discount Tire with a prorated hazard program included at no charge (additional 40-some dollar charge through Tirerack.com) and lifetime balancing. Not bad, I guess.
I'm saving the rear pair of T1-S for next year, but the front ones are completely worn out. So I'm going to do a nice burnout prior to getting the new tires put on. Fun times a-brewing.

Jeepers creepers, I was swamped in finals and stuff, so I didn't get the tires mounted until today. They came in early last week.
Well, we're in the middle of a big snow storm, so when better to get the new tires and test 'em out, right?
So here's my quick review on these tires.
They handle great. A little bit of pushing and understeering when pushed hard in the corners, but it is wet/slushy so it's expected. I expect dry performance to be pretty darn impressive.
As for snow traction, I went back to the parking structure that I messed around at a while back. I was able to do some pretty good snow drifting when I was on the Toyos, but man, these tires, for a lack of a better term, just wouldn't let me to do it!! Every time I got the rear end to spin out by pulling the parking brake, the front end bit into the snow, keeping traction, and spun the steering wheel on its own. Good sign if you're just driving normally and lost traction in the rear... bad news if you're trying to have fun.
Then I took the car out on the highway and tested for noise and balance. Impressive. I even took it up to 100+ briefly to see if the traction was pretty good and even in the wet pavement, they provided plenty of grip. Hardly any noise, either.
I like these tires. I think I made a good choice. I got them price-matched at Discount Tire for 87 apiece (Tirerack price) plus mounting and balancing and tax for about 445 out the door. Not too shabby. I would recommend.

i am impressed with the Sumitomos in the winter, they grip like hell, the compound is softer than the T1-S
i put 38psi since the side walls are very soft and now it's snowing so i drop back to 35psi for better traction
and now i feel a lot quieter than the Toyos, too much road noise

I just got a set of kumho ecsta asx 245/45/17 tires. The larger size and the softer tire made a big difference in the ride, compared to the OEM bs tires, which in their last awful days ran like tank treads. The kumhos are much easier on the divider strips and bumps in the road and the handling is still just as responsive. Expected tread life is 40000+ compared to the 24000 I got on the bs tires. They also don't look too fat from the side but have a wider, more muscular look from the front and rear. I would highly recommend them, especially in the 245 size.Originally Posted by Pure Adrenaline

I must retract my vote for the Kumho ASX tires. Last night, it was snowing a little and the tires just would not grip. I had no issues with the traction with the Sumitomos. TCS light was kicking in constantly.
