Koni Yellows Noise and Leaking
I was adjusting the firmness of my koni yellow shocks tonight and I noticed two things:
One of the front ones started making a noise like air being released from it.
One of the rear ones began leaking clear oil.
Are these shocks defective? They're only a few months old.

The air noise isn't abnormal.
Was it just a light coating on the shaft? If so that's normal.

Thanks.
The noise has never occurred before and I didn't hear it when adjusting the other shocks. So I wasn't sure if the yellows were gas filled and gas was escaping.
The oil was about a teaspoon full. I didn't see exactly where it came from, but my hand was covered with it after adjusting the dampening. I think it must have come up vertically from the adjusting pin to wet my hand while adjusting. I wiped it down today and saw no more oil.

I contacted KONI and here's the response:
So it looks like gas leaking out is bad. Blue fluid leaking out is bad, but clear fluid is fine.
You should never hear a sound coming from you shock that sounds like gas being released.
If you heard the sound while making the adjustments you many have put too much side load pressure on the adjusting rod allowing some gas pressure to escape.
Once you quit adjusting the front shock did the sound stop?
If not, all the gas pressure may have leaked out of you shock, which would be covered under the KONI warranty if you are the original purchaser.
Clear/brownish oil is fine as it is simply assembly oil.
It is when you see blue oil when you will have a leaking shock, and will want to have that shock replaced.

That is a lot of clear fluid coming out if you asked me. If those are not freshly brand new shocks, then why didn't the clear fluid come out before until now? Many, many times manufacturers keep saying it's normal, normal, until it ran out of warranty, then nothing is normal then.

I would contact them again and see about getting them replaced.
