help please!!!

i've been lookin for tires for my car and i was just wondering what these numbers mean.............like 215/40/17...........i kno those are the type of tire u need i kno ones offset and ones the tire size but wats the other numbers mean???

215 is the width in millimeters
40 tire hight to tread weadth ratio (low number = lower profile) a higher number will give you a softer ride while a lower number will give you better handling and a harsher ride.
17 is the wheel (rim) dia

Reading Tire Sizes:

Example Size: P205/60R-15OWL


P - Passenger

Tire sizes can also start with the following:

BP - Cosmetic Blemish Passenger

LT - Light Truck

205 - Width in millimeters of tire’s tread.

60 - Aspect Ratio - Percentage of tread width that equals the sidewall height.

R - Radial

The letter “R” can also include the following:

HR - H=Speed Rating

VR - V=Speed Rating

ZR - Z=Speed Rating

15 - Rim diameter in inches.
