H&R springs + what shocks?

hey guys, i just got a set of H&R springs for my 2000. i know i can use the stock shocks, but i heard they will soon go out.. so i wanna change them now so i can save some money on labor and installation.. what shocks do you guys recommend to have the best ride possible? OEM quality or higher? i really want it smooth, i know by lowering the car that didn't help but, was hoping the shocks can help it out..??

a very good brand would be KONI, you can have it adjustable or not, yellow or red, they are a bit more expansive than other brand like kyb and tokico but it's a good invesment.

Dont get tokico blues, yes they are cheap. **You get what you pay for** I have them and they suck. I had to replace the Left Rear shock after 8 months. Get Tein Coilovers. Get good shocks n springs and never have to worry about suspension again. Less hassle then to keep replacing *Cheap Shocks** Just my

......H&R Sport Springs arent really that great either. After a while they start to sag. I'm gonna redo my suspension again. and this time im gonna do it right! TEIN SS COILOVERS W/ EDFC!!!!!!!! GET THOSE AND YOUR DONE FOR GOOD!!!

Yea I just bought the H&R springs with Tokico Illuminas. How long should I expect these to last for before I start noticing some problems? Would I need a camber kit or alignment done?

You shouldnt need a camber kit but an alignment would be a good idea. I have the Comptech springs on my stock shocks for about 15k miles and they are still fine. Your setup will last a long time. Most of us dont have the $$$ for the Tein EDFC setup

sorry if this has been discussed already, i tried searching but to no avail.

two weeks ago, i recently installed h&r sports on stock struts on my 03 tl-s. feels better than i expected, with the stiffness that you would expect. the only place that i'm disappointed in is the drop! the back looks good with a 1 finger gap but the fronts have a 2.5 finger drop. doesn't look good at all IMO.

i also know that this set up wont last me long on my stock struts, being that i put that on my 70k mile car. Koni Yellows are my strut of choice from researching for the past week or two. Can anyone with this setup chime in and confirm for me which perch I could set the Koni's too to give a nice even 1 finger drop (basically keeping the back the same but dropping the front)?

I'm sure no one recommends this, but before I even considered this option, a friend of mine with an ABP TL-S said he cut a half coil off the h&r sports from the dead coil side which gave him that even drop w/o any differences in feel (bumpyness or change in spring rate)

Anyway, thanks in advance!

I personally recommend Koni Yellows from neuspeed. You can adjust them for height and stiffness to feel just how you want. They are only hard when adjusted that way.

Blues are stock replacement shocks, just like KYB GR2. Don't expect anything more than stock performance out of them, even though they probably would last a littler longer.

Basics are a great alternative to good replacement shocks and springs. Dampers and springs all in one, and they are adjustable for height with a shortened body. The cost a little more but it is a matched kit which means +handling for +ride quality.

Illuminas are better shocks than blues are for sure, but I'd still go with Koni. At this point the arguement is for a newer and more advanced shock design. Both are tried and true, but I put my money on the konis to perform and last longer. Plus you can have the konis rebuilt.

See this writeup on camber kits.

Damn! Lotta questions in one thread!!!

The drop difference on your car is probably the fault of your car's fender design. The front fender cutouts are huge compared to the rear. So in most cases you'd need to lower the front more to get even tire gaps. Sports are supposed to lower your car 1.75/1.5, and that .25" is just not enough to make up for long wheelbase and huge front fenders. I'd suggest tossing some Konis on there. They are 5-way adjustable for height so you can even out that gap by dropping the front some more and firming it up.

Each ring on the Konis from Neuspeed is about 1/4". So you'd probably wanna drop the front all the way down.

Cutting coils is pretty oldskool, and I can't talk smak on it since the prime setup back in the day was sportlines with 1.5 coils cut in front on pretty much any honda. I'd cut so manu coils I can't even remember But there is just no need for it now-a-days. Get the better shocks.

Do the front first. The more rake you give it the closer your lip will be to the ground. You don't wanna scrape it everywhere. You may need to get the tire gaps "close enough.

I've never heard this in the 3G side. Is this a 2G problem?

I hope to do the suspension on the 2G next year and was leaning toward H&R Sports w/Koni Nuespeeds.

Sagging....myth? Common occurance? I bet you could get a handful of people that would complain about sagging on just about every spring out there.

From what I gather, it is not something to attach to a particular brand, because everyone has complaints about it. Yet job after job and car after car does not have a problem with sagging.

To me, why worry about it? If it happens to you, hope that the spring you chose is made by a company that will honor its warranty.
