H&R spring question
About 6 months ago I purchased H&R sports of the Black Market. I was under the assumption they were 50103s. The seller said he had the original box and when I got them, sure enough they were in an H&R box with 50103 on the side. I never opened them (dumb ass me) as I was waiting to get the other parts needed for my complete suspension makeover (shocks, springs, & sways). So tonight I open the box and wouldn't you know it the springs themself say "51858"!!! So what is the deal with these springs? I know they are made for a V6 Accord sedan and are less of a drop. Do they fit a TL-S at all? I am putting them back up for sale and getting the 50103s but I just wanted to know what the deal with them was.

blk_tl may not have had any problems, which is either luck or the springs just haven't shown any problems yet.
Type-S RPh,
Yes, they do fit, HOWEVER, read on:
Without getting into too much elaboration, but of course you can just do a quick search for these H&R springs that you have, the springs that you have and the main problem with those in particular is that they were supposedly made for the Honda accord V6 1998-2002 platform. H&R thought the Honda accord and TL were the same, such as weight of the cars. The Honda accord of this platform had less weight than our 2G TL cars. Some people bought these springs that you have with that number "51858" and had problems with sagging in the REAR of the car and "bottoming-out" problems. The H&R Sport "H&R box with 50103" were in fact the correct ones that were made by H&R after they realized that the 1998-2002 Honda accord and 2G TL's were different.
Be aware that H&R springs *can* be rough if not paired with proper shocks too. Seems like most guys are happy with either Tokico Illuminas (softer) or Koni Yellows ( harder). There is also Bilstein shocks. Read here:
CLer's opinion of Bilstein shocks
Recommendation: If you are willing to take chances, even though some members did not have any problems at all with those "51858" springs, then go for it. I, personally, would not continue with those springs just to be safe: waste of labor, time and hassles and have to possibly worry about future issues of sagging.
Sorry about the bad news but hope that helps

Thanks for the info. I have Koni Yellows to go with the springs. I'm not taking a chance. Besides, springs are relatively cheap in the overall scheme of things. I'm ordering the correct ones.

but you also have to keep in mind that the majority of the people who had saggin problems are people who had a heavy system in their trunk.. it's more of a chance of it happening than a definite yes it will.
there are members here that still haven't had any problems.. and they have had it for awhile.
also other note, the only difference between the 51858 and 50103 are the two rear springs. i think they are just a bit stiffer to compensate for the tl's weight

well, i personally feel the 50103's make the car sit better. I have the 50103's and the car sits slightly higher in the back. So, when I have people or luggage, the car sits level. I hear the the other springs will make the car somewhat sag in the back. So, I didn't even bother getting anything but the 50103's.

I recently changed from springs from the 51858's to the 50103's... the car does sit a little higher in the back but it's not by much... maybe half an inch. I can tell, but the average person can't. And I still rub even with the 50103's. FYI, I've got 18 x 7.5 with +45 offset, cut tabs.

if you're using the koni's with the 51858's, you can just put the rear perch higher to compensate for any spring sag, if any. did you check all of the springs? do they all say 51858, or just the fronts?

i personally wouldnt care which ones i had as my sub and box are pretty light and i dont normally carry passengers in the rear of my car, so if you need someone to unload those springs onto, let me know. im still running my stock 17"s and i plan on keeping them so i shouldnt have a problem with rubbing.

So the H&R Spring 50103 seems to be a better match with our TLs??
ALso does anyone here use the OE spec struts with the H&R springs?? will this setup work or would I have to use likr the Tokico Illuminas or Koni Yellows ??
If I do need to get either the Tokico Illuminas or Koni Yellows , what wesite can they be purchased at? Best price/service always recommended
. Thanks
