DIY: Raising/Lowering Function&Form Coilovers

This may seem obvious but people are asking others on how this process works, so for those PM'ing Josh and others asking how to raise/lower the coilovers, here is the simple 3 step method.

Step 1: Loosen Gold Ring by turning it to the left

Step 2: Grab the treads and depending on whether you are raising or lowering turn the inside treads with your hand. (It is much faster this way, using the damn wrenches takes to long)

Step 3: Lock the gold ring by turning it right.

Enjoy!

Now, where does pre-load come into play?

EDIT: After re-reading, I see you left pre-load alone and adjusted the correct way, right?

When I had coilovers on another car, the spring was the only thing you could adjust the height by, not the bottom mount...so I'm inexperienced with the RIGHT way to adjust coilovers.

What car model for the F2's did you get them for? TSX/Accord?

From my understanding, F2's, PICs, and I think D2s, KSports have independent height and preload adjustments so that's why your adjusting from the bottom. Something like Teins (or just sleeves) your "adjusting the spring" so it affects the load.

So it really depends on which coilovers you have, not really a right/wrong way to adjust them..

for preload, you just snug up the spring so it touches and has a little pressure on it to hold it in place; ie: when the lift/jack the car up and the shock is at full extension the spring is still snug enough that it will not get dislocated/shifted out of place when the car is let back down (also think about what would happen if you happen to get a little air when driving at speed)

the fronts are like 3/4 of an inch too short from the factory size and backs are only like 1/2 an inch too short

^ That's the one thing I don't like about F2's is the adjustability range. Almost at the highest for the fronts and it's still pretty low.. if it were able to raise the front like how the rear when fully raised it would work better for me (damn Canadian winters!)

How high do you think the limit would be for raising the fronts on the sleeve (eg. on step 3 pic, are your collars alll the way to the top?)
