What rotors and pads are you running? Good ones or ebays?

Some dust is normal and any "cut" rotors also scrape a little bit of the pads material
Cross drilled have extra cutting abilty, with the holes adding so many edges
What style of chamfering is used on the holes?

Pads get hot and shed small pieces of superheated material from themselves- see my other postings for details on rotors and pad outgassing-
This material then deposits itself on the rim.
This hot material is like glue for road dirt and any other particulate matter.
Thats what you see on the rim
A 200 mile fun run with ~race driver use of brake~ will leave a mark on my rims that requires soap and a towel or brush to remove. Weekly normal driving does about the same.

Make sure to follow the break in instructions for the rotors and pads- they may have different needs! Usually avoid panic stops for first 500 miles. Again - read the info with your parts.

Pics of YOUR dust would be helpful here too

What type if Brake Pads are you using?

Semi Metallic or Ceramic?

I believe Semi Metallic creates more brake dusts than Ceramics. If you got ebay Rotors, don't use the semi-metallic pads that come with them. Better off getting Hawks HPS or EBC green stuff.

If you dont want brake dust, use akebono proact pads. They're ceramics but less dust. I had axxis ultimates and they just too dusty. It all depends on the pads you use. Pick one that will generate less dust.

I wanted to know what brand of CROSS DRILLED rotors- as that has a huge effect on how the pads react and the amount of material they shed on a normal basis
More holes is more edges to wear on pads

Yes My Hawk HPS Pads make some dust because they bite so well on
the Racing Brake rotors!

Yeah I have the ebc greens aswell, and they dust up the wheels pretty well, I dont ever remember this amount of dust with my oems. I thought I was just trying to convince myself that it wasnt more dust, b/c ppl on here praise these and the Hawks, but its def true.

man im just busting ur balls

there are trade offs. obvi the pads that bite are gonna dust a bit more, oem doesnt dust, but it also sucks. i can deal with "some" dust, im not gonna be happy with volvo audi bmw levels tho.

EBC Greenstuffs are known for producing less dust than most other pads.

you should definitely try the akebono proact. I was little hesitate at first becuase not that much peeps have use it, but i'm glad i bought it. They bite just as good as the axxis ultimate in my opinion, but less dust. I used to clean my rims every other day, now I'm only clean it when i wash my car.

i have the irotors cross drilled/slotted rotors and satisfied pro ceramic brake pads.. no dust at all.. they just make a funky clunk as if the pads were slightly stuck to the rotors after i give the car a wash.

After washing my car- which entails removal of some serious brake dust on occassion,
I take it for an easy around the block lightly dragging and warming the brakes. They make a groan sound at stopping until dry
Get em warm, heat em up, and go drive!
I was reading up on brake dust, and BBS wheels says 3 coats of carnuba wax or your fave car wax on the rims inside and out, will reduce the problem.

Yes, keeping the wheels clean helps brake dust not stick. Also if you use any form of tire foam/shine after your first drive with it applied wipe down the wheels to get teh oils off the rim. That really attracts and holds brake dust and dirt to the rim.

I'm going back to stocks...EBCs are making me clean my wheels every 3 days. I could go weeks on my stock pads w/o noticing any dust buildup. I can't explain it, but it is what it is. FSTTYMS1, glad you had god luck with them, but tirerack.com reviews show that users have the same issues I have. I assume the EBCs are not ceramic...dunno

I got 2 coats of "Wheel Wax" from American Racing and that helps a ton!! But, the dust is really getting on my nerves. I am getting the Mothers Powerball red polisher thing and put a couple more coats on them and hopefully it will help the dust blow off easier..unless its raining...

Ive been using them for years because they are the best performance pad out there. Yes they make slightly more dust than stock but not much. Ive never had a dusting problem. You want bad dust, use axxis

This is 3 days of axxis ultimates.

I dont think my wheels would look that bad after 3 months of driving with the Green Stuff. And i even had the slots the opposite way for better brake pad wear

whoa, thats bad. 3 days!

so the hub side of the slot coming in to the pad first creates less wear?

Does anybody have experience with the R1 concepts cross-drilled/slotted rotors? www.r1concepts.com - I checked this site out and they seem well made. <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d127/Gfaze/r1premiums_small.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

search for my thread on ebay rotors. people both here and on the CL side have had no issues with them. i just got raceconcept one, but the R1 was really my first choice. Look at the ones that arent painted black. Those are more popular.

i dont see why brake dust is such a big deal. i mean your wheels cant get that dirty before the next wash can they? i guess this is more of a "how often you wash your car" problem.

I usually hand wash my car weekly. But, after a week my front wheels look gunmetal if I don't wipe off the dust daily. I know I have gone weeks at a time without wiping down my wheels on OEM brake pads and my front wheels look the same as my rears do (they are still stock pads).

As I said before, I have seen some reviews on TireRack.com for the EBCs and some folks are saying the same thing I am experiencing. I may have got a bad lot of them or something, who knows. My luck, I'll get OEM pads again and have twice as much dust as the EBCs...If the Akebono ceramics are good, I may go that route. I had them on my old Accord and I was quite pleased with them. I've only had my rotors on for 3-4 months with no warp feel. I wouldn't have to turn those rotors to put new pads on would I|?

Hey guys they only make these Akebono pro act for our fronts correct? If they do, is it recommended to change both front and rear at the same time? Would you go them with OEM back and Akebono fronts? I have both slotted and crossdrilled Rotoras and just wanting some info.
