Considering wheels and tires

Hello all:

I am currently running stock tires and rims on an 03 tl and am looking at a set of wheels and tires...used but immaculate shape..rubber close to new

Rims are 18 by

Tires are Dunlop 225/40zr18.... bolt pattern 5x114.3

are these a direct bolt on or if not, what will I need to make work?

any clearance issues...change in suspension characteristics?

Ride quality and road noise change

forgive the rather simple questions...I am new at this!

thank you!!

Ride quality and road noise change!

Yeah, the rims will bolt right up. If you're on the stock suspension, tires should clear depending upon the rim's width and offset. Tabs may require trimming. Ride may be a bit harsher due to tire's lower profile sidewall. Suspension should be checked out to make sure that everything's still tight after 10 years on the road.

Try to find the rim's width, offset and center hub bore diameter.
Check the "sticky" above your post for more info on what others have tried.

what's the most cost effective means of lowering...without over-compromising ride quality

the wheels will look much better if you are lowered. Lowering is very expensive but in the end your car will look better and be more fun to drive since it will be stiffer. Nonetheless you are compromising comfort, look into a set of full coilovers for the best performance and quality.

WIth that offset you will have to trim bumper tabs and possibly roll rear fenders

hmm....that sounds like it requires both technical assistance and a fair chunk of change, yes?

doing the trimming of the bumper tabs only requires a dremel with a cutting disc and probably want to sand it smooth with a sanding bit... or if you have a hot knife.. you can use that.

at the sizing, you'll only need a mild roll but if you look around in your area, i'm sure someone can help with fender rolling.. check in with the regional section to see if anyone can be of assistance with a fender roll or know of anyone that can help you

Thank you!

k.....maybe I should consider asking the following. I run 16 (stock wheels and tires on my 03 tl at prsent).

I am willing to do a massive search for every wheel and tire combination that fits without mods of any kind

so: What is the optimum size/specs of wheel/tire offset that I can use that requires no mods whatsoever. I have been told to stay away from anything over 18....I just dont want to get into mods of any kind if I can avoid it
thank you all!

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-tires-wheels-suspension-100/faq-wheel-rim-size-will-they-fit-580759/

7" rim = +42 offset
7.5" rim = +45 offset
8" rim = +48 offset
just a guideline..
