Coils VS Springs/Shock

Any input? I've been reading you guys comments and noticed that you guys say you regret getting the springs and should've got the coils first. Im stuck in a pit right now, here are my choices.

FF Type 1
or
FF Type 2
or
Koni yellow shocks/Eibach Sportline Springs. *are these the springs that will get me the lowest compared to others?

Spring/Shock combo route would be the best financial route for me though, broke college student

Keep in mind i made this thread for input because my friend has coils on his FG2 and hes switching over to the new shocks/spring combo.

I AM looking for both a drop and performance. I mainly want my car to look like a fellow member's car. I already have the wheels, i just need the drop.

FF Type 1 will be cheaper and easier to install than a decent spring/shock combo like konis and h&r.

fixed..

when you say decent spring/shock combo.. i think more along the lines of the available tokico shocks for the TL with any other spring out there.

and yes.. for the drop you are looking for.. coils.

I was thinking

Koni Yellows & Eibach Sportline

is that combo more expensive then the FF1? o.o

I measured everything earlier and the springs/shocks seems best bet, from the floor to my fender is 27inches, my tsx wheels with new tires are about 25.5inches and the sportline drops me 2.25-2.5 right? That evens out basically

If you buy everything new, then yeah that combo will be more expensive. I mean the shocks alone are $600 plus springs and shipping, tax, etc on top of that. FF Type 1s are around $575 shipped on ebay if you lowball the seller with that offer.

Is it possible for me to get FF type 1 and change the springs? I seriously did not think the shocks were 600 alone.

*Edit, would it be better to keep the stock FF type 1 springs or change them out to something else?

why would you want to change out the springs for the type-I?

the real good thing about Koni is lifetime warranty vs function forms supposed 1 year limited warranty

Get a set of used coilovers. Got my Tein SS for 540 only. Had some rust and were dirty as hell, but still work great. Shop I bought them from couldn't believe they were the same coilovers after I cleaned them up.

Koni/Tokico have a lifetime warranty only when you are dropped a certain amount. If they think you were too low, you're not covered. Tokicos warranty wont cover you if your'e dropped over 1.5 or 1.7.....somewhere around there. If you want a low priced coilover that lowers your car as much as you want but don't care much for performance then go with the FF type one. If you're willing to spend a bit more for better performance, go with an adjustable damper like the Megans or FF type 2. Tein coilovers will get rid of your wheel gap but wont get any lower, but from what I understand they are still a bit of a soft ride but Tein is quality stuff. Neuspeed Race springs go the lowest as far as springs go from what I've seen http://www.customcarscentral.com/neu...d--98-02-.html

None of those coilover setups should be better performance wise than a good strut/spring setup. Tokico Illuminas/H&R or Koni/H&R would be awesome performance wise, but with any of the lower spring setups you'll have to live with a 1-2 finger gap.

jjasha, are the Koni's for the TL height adjustable like some of the others? I know they usually have 3 height settings on the actual damper...if thats the case you could go .25 lower I believe.

You're right, just found it. They go 20mm lower which is about 4/5 of an inch. So technically you could drop over 3 inches on these struts and springs? It says they adjust at the perch though, so that would change the preload correct? I think I'm confusing myself here.

Hopefully i can get FF Type 2. I just need it low enough for my standards but high enough for my sisters/father to drive sometimes. Im actually scared to get my front lip when i drop my car.. fearing either my sister/father rips it off while driving

Don't get coilovers if anyone else drives your car. Bad news bears.

Unless they drive it, hate the ride, and never want to drive/ride in your car again.
