coilover install question
Well, now that is is about to be spring and the snow is gone for the year(I hope), it is time for me to finally install my coilovers that have been collecting dust for 4 months.
I was planning on doing it myself, but i took my wheel off and looked and the bolts are really rusted, which is understandable since the car is 10 years old. I went to a shop today to get a quote and he said $150 for the install and $60 for an alignment. He said he strongly recommends I get an allignment, but I havent heard about allignments for coilovers before, only rims.
My question is, is an allignment really neccesary? Also any advice about rusted bolts? When I did my exhaust I had to use a torch to get them all out, are there alternative ways?
One last question. When next winter comes around what should I use to protect my coilovers threads so they dont seize up? I heard tape before, if so what kind is the best for this purpose, because I dont want the thread to be sticky.
Thanks

no.. alignment is a must!!
spray the bolts down with pb blaster day before and let them soak in..
breaker bar helps as well.
protect them by oiling them up with some wd-40 time to time

and while you have the bolts off, i would just get some new ones from the dealership and replace em.. wouldnt hurt..
one thing i love about being in texas is not having to deal with all the rust like the north guys..

yes an alignment is very neccessary. changing the height of the ride will change the geometry of the suspension, depending on the stock components, normall lowering hte car increased negative camber.
$60 is very very cheap

did the shop have any wood to help yo get it up there? thats what we do for super slammed cars at my place. and like everyone before said the alignment is needed unless you wanna just blow through tires... and if you buy tires get road hazard saves a lot of money blew out a brand new 235/40/18 HTR Z III had it less then a week got a new one for $12.95 compared to what it cost me originally
