Centerbore

Ok, I bought some wheels that have a smaller center bore than the hub centerbore, so they don't fit. I'm going to a machine shop to get it bored out. I've searched the forums but came up with inconclusive old threads. what is the size of the centerbores.. 70.1mm?

Also is it better to tell the machine shop to cut it bigger , for example 70.5 or 71 to ensure that it will fit?

appreciate any feedback.

will boring the wheel affect the structural integrity?

I think it is 64.1 mm, but someone else should confirm.

why wouldn't you just get it to 64.1??? if it's any different from 64.1 you will be lug-centric... and should have to buy a hubcentric ring (i'm not even sure they make anything that small)

64.1, keep it the stock size so it fits. You can go larger but then you would have to get hub centric rings.

Because the wheel might possibly be off from the center by even 1mm and won't align with hub/bolts. So I'll take ^ your advice.. Just didn't realize machine shops were that precise. I guess I'll try the rims on at the shop.

thanks again

Ok, I called up a bunch of machine shops to cut the center bore of 56.1mm on my wheels to 64.1mm, so I can fit it on the hub and they all refused. A couple guys explained to me that this would ruin the structural integrity of the wheel.

I've done some research and found that some wheels are engineered according to the size of the centerbore. So would boring the center out like that ruin it's structural integrity? Should I keep searching for a machinist who would cut it or is there some sort of hub adapter?

It all depends on how much material is there to begin with. Most rims are blanks and bored to the desired size in manufacturing.

They dont have to remove very much to get that but if there isnt much there it would. Have you brought the wheel in to a machinist to have them physically see it?

Also whats this going to cost? Id just look for wheels that fit

yeah I made the mistake of buying these rims already. And instead of selling them at a loss I thought I could just change the center...

thanks for the tips

May cost more to have them made to fit than the loss you would take by getting properly fitting wheels.
