Calling Pilot Sport A/S Drivers
I have an 02 TL-S, purchased used, with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 225/50/17's on stock rims. These are the only tires I have ever had on this car. These things feel like you are driving around on sticky marshmallows.
My understanding is that these are the BEST tires you can buy in this class - high performance, all season. I have actually had two people at different tire stores tell me to not bother with any other tire, since I would not be satisfied after driving on these (my presumption is that they just want to sell them).
My question is this - does anyone that HAS driven on these tires before have any type of recommendation for a different replacement? These particular Michelins are a little over $1000 for the set, and I only got about 35K miles. For me that is about 2 years worth of driving - and that is more money than I want to spend at the moment. I know the stock tires suck, based on reading here - any other options that I will like for less money ?
Thanks !

that is the best tire for a allseason. im surprised you only got that many miles out of them. i was in the upper region of 45k on mine.
as for a tire thats a good replacement, go to the tirerack.com and compare. they have a rating system and a area for coments from others that own the tires your looking at.
as for a replacement, i liked the Sumitomo HTR+ http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....reModel=HTR%2B, and the Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ero+Nero+M%26S

Thanks all -
I was looking at these......while I know people have these on their cars - would they actually be RECOMMENDED? Looks like the Pirelli's (or Yokohamas or ContiExtreme or Goodyear RS/A's) are for rim widths starting at 7 inches wide. Aren't the stock rims 6.5" ? Will they still fit properly, or should we worry about them "popping off" if you were doing hard cornering ?
If the answer is that this is a bad idea, then that leaves the Michelins, Bridgestones RE92, and the Sumitomo's working with 6.5" rims.
Thanks

225/50-17 on a 6.5" wheel is just fine. 245/45-17 on a 6.5"...not a chance regardless of which tire manufacturer you check with. Absolute minimum would be 7.5".
