Bump on Front Tire

Hi all, just found out that the left front tire of my 02 TL-S has a little bump on its sidewall (or hump?). Anyways, it appears as though there is some extra air right in that spot. So I went to a nearby Fountain Tire store and asked one of the technicians, and his response was that the tire might blow up anytime. He said that the reason for that little bump is most likely because the tire hit a curb. And I guess he was right as last year, I hit the curb hard while pulling the car to the side of the road (I also scratched my rims because of that...).

So my question is, which tires should I buy? I am currently using Falken Ziex ZE-512 and so far, I have been looking at the following tires:

Toyo Proxes 4 Tires - $150 (new)
Yokohama AVID H4S - $176 (this one is recommended in another thread)
Falken Ziex ZE-512 - $125 (current tires)
Dunlop Direzza DZ101 - $176

These are Canadian prices from:

Any suggestions guys? Thanks.

I bought from Cdn Tire a set of BF Goodrich Traction T/A's for about $160 each. So far, the road noise is slightly higher over the stock Michelin, but handling is way better. Cornering feeling is tight, nice and crisp and sticky on dry road. On ice and snow, it is not as good as Cooper tires I had before on the Accord, but reasonable. Never got stuck in snow yet this year in Winnipeg winter. Loss of traction could be due to wider tire width compared to the Accord.

Thanks vtec260, I am wondering if there are different models of BF Goodrich Traction T/A's because in the Canadian Tire website, they are $103 each.

Hold on.....I think that price is for the smallest size....

If you get the Yokohama's make sure you get the AV4S tires. I have them and highly recommend them. Also look into pricing on tires.com & tirerack.com

I can't seem to find AV4S, I did find AVS ES100. Is that the one you were talking about? Also, I am from Canada, does tires.com or tirerack.com ship to Canada?

Oh by the way, what do you guys think about the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S besides the fact that it is more expensive? How does it compare with other tires?

X2 The Yoko V4S's are very quiet, smooth and are pretty grippy. Not to mention the fact that they are very affordable

He means the Yokohama Avid V4S. And I agree with Chris, these tires are very quiet, very smooth and are quite grippy. Not to mention the fact that they are affordable

So how does the V4S compare with Toyo Proxes 4 and Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S?

I have narrowed my choices down to these 3 and I am having trouble deciding on which model I should get...but I need to make my decision quick...cause I really don't know when that front tire of my car will give up on me....as for now, I am leaning toward the Proxes 4 because of its "handsome" tread. :P

If money was no object, I would go with Michelin Exalto's. More dough and Tirerack's rating has them #1. BF Goodrich Traction T/A was like #6. With BF's you get 100 000 km. treadwear warranty, free rotation at Cdn tire and I ended up buying extra warranty from them for $7 per tire for free replacement tire(s) in case damaged tires can't be repaired. If you will be using tires for all season, make sure you take a look at snow/ice rating since winter is 6 months long in typical Canadian cities.

I was definitely thinking about the Exalto's but then they were too $$. I went with Yokohama Avid V4S. I bought them at Country's tireland and they were $200CAD each including installation and balancing. I went with them because they were able to get the tires and install them on the same day I ordered them. Other stores like Volco, I would have to wait for 10 days. I actually replaced 2 tires only (the front ones) and I'm still using my Falken Ziex ZE-512 at the back. I know this isn't a good thing but how bad of an idea is this??

Good choices. Do not hit any more pot holes. Let me know if the road noise level is quieter with your set up.

I can't give you any info right now as I drive my camry to work now. But I will have the chance to drive my TL-S during the weekend and by then I will post some update. Hopefully the new tires can give me more grip when accelerating from a stop. I always had wheelspin with the Falkens before especially in the rain.

Tire pressure is all important
About 80 percent of max cold is a god rough number
36 psi for most of us
