BIG Wheels On The Ack

To all those people with 19's and 20's ridin big help me out. What exactly do you mean when you say you had to cut out the tabs so that their is no rubbing. If someone can show me a picture i would apreciate it.

Also i noticed that most people with big wheels have coilovers or have their whip dropped so i also would like some advice on what to do as far as suspension so that my ack dont rub and rides clean wit the 20's that im about to put on it that are 20X7.5 .

It really depends on the offset/width of the wheel along with the drop you plan to run. What is the offset of your wheel? If it is on the lower end, like less than +45 or +42 on a 7.5" wide wheel (19s or 20s), you might rub especially if you're dropped. The tab runs on the inside of the rear fender, pretty much a "lip" that many people cut / roll in order to accomodate big wheels / a more aggressive offset along with a lowered suspension setup. A 20x7.5 inch wheel +45 offset (for example Foose Speedsters) would run alright on the 2nd gen tl with a slight drop. If you plan on running coilovers with an aggressive drop, you might require cutting/rolling the rear fenders. Not really a big deal to do, but just something that can help accomodate the new setup. Hope this helps, I'm sure a lot of other people on here know more and can pitch in with more info to help you out.

The setup is 20x7.5 with a +42 offset. But right now i dont have any type of aftermarket suspension. Everything is stock for right now. i dont want to drop it to be honest.

Cut the tabs yourself. All you need is a knife

It's not a big deal really..i was sweatin it when I first put it on because I couldn't tell if my metal portion of the fender was rubbing or the urethane. Luckily it is the fender tab and just a little past the tab down towards the mud flap holes. I trimmed down about 4 inches total downward and I can't get it to rub anymore. The only way you really notice the trimming, is if you knew what you were looking for...it looks very clean and eliminates the rubbing!

I have an '03 type-s with 20x8's runnin 225/30/20. Not sure what the offset on the wheel is, it's perfectly flush.. Never found out the offset from where i bought them and i haven't measured yet.. No suspension mods just yet, i have not rolled or cut the tabs and i do not rub at all.. I plan on gettin coilovers in the near future to drop the gap in the wheel well.. Have no fear of the 20's, unless you plan on slammin it.

19's fo sho

I just put 18x8 rims from TSW on my 02 type-s with Tein springs. I had to cut the tabs mostly because of the width of the rim, not because of the offset. The wheel only rubs over bumps when the tire hits the tab. With 19's or 20's, the width is what will determine if you need to cut the tabs. Even with the car lowered, if the rims are 7.5" or less, you probably will be fine. The tabs are plastic, so throw the rims on and drive it slow to hear if it hits, the tabs won't blow your tire out. If the rim is 8" or wider, you will have to cut the tabs, also your rims might stick out depending on the offset. I'm not an expert, but I just put my rims on.

And for size, 19's look the best, and remember the smaller the rim, the cheaper the tires

Well around here, 20" tires are cheaper and more readily available than a 19". That is the downside, if you have a blowout or something your local places my not stock a 225/35/19.

I say shop around for some 19 tires. Find a good deal on tire rack or discounttiredirect.com and bring that page in to a tire shop. Most will match the price. If you do have a problem with a tire, you can always put your stock 16 or 17 inch wheel/tire back on until a replacement comes in. 225 or 235/35 tires are more and more popular these days, so I wouldn't worry about "availability" There are some nice 20's that will fit, but keep in mind, the 19's ride hard and the 20's ride even harder. I did notice a difference when I put my 19's on. It's not terrible, but uneven roads and roads with joints are felt! My HR Springs add to the effect though. Go with 19's man, I think it fits our cars perfectly..not dissin 20's..just my opinion. Here's my 19's (Zenetti Five Chrome 19x8 with 45 offset)

That roof mini antenna is stock. I have factory NAVI with OnStar and I believe that is my OnStar communications antenna..unless they keep analog cell towers, all of us 2nd Gen TLs with OnStar will no longer be able to use it in 2008 since our systems are analog!

its for the 03 tl's that came with navi ... they were equipped with on-star which is what the antenna is for.
