I'm having this same problem, but only when it rains quite a bit and the front windshield has gotten quite wet. I live in the Seattle/Tacoma area where it rains a fair amount. I thought it might be the wipers so I replaced with Bosch wipers. They've cut down on the chatter but not the hard hitting chatter when moving to the down position. I thought I was the only one with this problem. Anyone have any ideas?

You may have to remove the bolt that holds them on and readjust the wiper arm to sit slightly higher.

I replaced my wiper rods. Seach the forum for the fix. The arms have plastic clips on the end that get worn. Your wiper arms will travel too far and bang and make noise. New arms and wiper blades (Bosch) = mine are nice and quiet.
