Whenever I gas it to the floor, everytime I smell something. Im not sure what it is, maybe gas? but I smell it even with the windows rolled up. Even a quick 0-60 and I smell it, and 80-100 I smell it to. Driving normally is fine, but im not sure what the smell is? Does anyone know?

AEM short ram intake
Tsudo axlebacks with mid muffler removed
And a rebuilt transmission (it failed before, but its semi-fixed now)


Has anyone had this happen before, or know what it is, or how to fix it please?

You have to describe the smell. Burnt sugar? Is it sweet like antifreeze? Gasoline? Exhaust?

 

I'm hoping for your sake it isn't a burnt sugar scent....

 

Hmm, I guess gas would probably be the scent. What would you guys recommend me doing?

But seriously, if you've narrowed it down to it being the smell of fuel.....then inspect the entire full system for any evidence of an apparent leak. Start with the fuel tank filling inlet cap. Next the tank and associated vent and supply lines. Was the tank overfilled ? The gas will expand, ya know !

If it's not anything apparent in the rear and along the fuel line rails to the motor, then check all the fittings to the injectors and pressure valve. If you smell it more so when driving, one would logically think that the smell is originating from up front somewhere. Your best bet would be to have the fuel system pressure checked, IMO.

 

Fuel injectors should be cleaned. That usually helps with smell and black exhaust.

 

Yeah, ya could try some fuel system cleaner for the injectors.....but I doubt that the distinct fuel odor will simply go away afterwards. Hmmm running ok normally.....but, full throttle only gets to smelling ?

No codes, no lights. and only happens at full throttle... Can this damage my car at all....?

 

Perhaps it's incomplete combustion at full throttle. It may be O2 sensor related....perhaps they are out of spec. You can check if their ohms are in range at the connector. If not, rockauto has the Denso ones for $25 and $45...dirt cheap. I ordered the set for my TL.
Also, make sure you clean the intake manifold and egr ports and valve of all the carbon gunk. See diy.

 

Yeah, the O2 sensors tend to get overlooked.....as they often continue to work, even when on the edge.
Think about what all they are actually exposed to, worth the $100 and effort in giving that a shot !
