want to lock my car with engine running

I know I am going to get a shit-storm of people telling me I shouldn't do this; but in northern Canada in the winter everyone does it. Block heater at home and while at work (yes, employers provide electricity); leave it running everywhere else.

Does anyone know of a hack whereby I can lock my car with the remote while the engine is running? (2003 TL)

Open window and push the button to manually lock it. Or use your key and manually lock the door when you leave the car

Most automatic starters will let you do this with a configurable time to boot. That way you can leave it running for 5, 10 or 15 minutes.

Is this not the standard behavior? I had my '99 warming up last winter, locked with a second remote, and found myself locked out (I didn't have a spare key) because it won't unlock with a remote if the car is running. Maybe that was changed by the time the '03 came out.

So I carry two keys? I guess this is a viable option

Since remote starters have solved this problem; I was hoping there was a relatively simple hack I could do without actually getting a remote starter.

you'd need some sort of external module to facilitate what the remote starter already does.

you want to see a joke, you should see my paychecks every week...

Back to topic at hand, I think polo's remote starter suggestion might be what you need. No need to go and re-invent the wheel, ya know?

My '03 won't lock with the remote when the key is in the ignition. This behavior is annoying for my purposes but somewhat understandable. The behavior of your vehicle seems really bizarre.

Try your valet key. I'd be curious to know if your main keys/remote can lock the doors when the car is running with the valet key.

Try pulling fuse #9 on the driver side under dash fuse box.

Start the car, with the engine still running try your key fob remote to lock/unlock the doors... does the power locks still work with the car running now? And report back.

Thank-you 01acls; may I know your real first name?; this seems awkward.
I will try it and report back; but may not get to it until the weekend.

^ Don't pull the #9 fuse. It didn't work like I hope it would. Duf!
