VTEC Question

ive looked around through all of this and can't find anything like this but i have a 99 TL-P and it seems like since i had the egr service done that my VTEC isnt coming on as soon as it used to. It waits until about 5k RPMS then it acts like its going to die, then it will slam me back in the seat when it kicks in, this is only in first gear. is this normal? other than the P0420, there are no codes...please help im stumped

This most likely not a VTEC issue at all. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. VTEC in the TL will never slam you around. You can hear the VTEC cam change and the added growl and feel an additional pull, but nothing that should be rough. If it's "slamming" you around, I'd be more inclined to be suspicious of the transmission.

Well after taking my car to the local honda dealer (we dont have an acura dealer where i live, its over 5 hours a way) a piece of oil filter was clogging the VTEC screen but luckily they changed my oil so it was fixed free of charge

I've never heard of those parts. Odd. VTEC screen? I know that VTEC doesn't engage if there is low oil pressure, but I've never heard of the other stuff.

There is a screen on the solenoid of the VTEC parts attached to the oil filter assembly, he said that it was blocking the screen so it was delaying the engagement of the VTEC system, and the dealer said that is was very abrupt because it was at such a high rpm with high oil pressure or something...all i know is that the dealer said if anything else happens to my pump or VTEC system it will be fixed free of charge!!!
