Very unusual problem, no power in the car
Hi Guys,
I have an unusual issue, in my 1999 TL the battery died so I
tried to jump it using an Enclave but the car won't jump and the
output from the Enclave drops to zero when connected to the TL.
I even tried connecting to the TL without the battery in the TL and still the Enclave drops to zero. I removed a fuse panel cover by the firewall on the passenger side and located what I believe is the master fuse.
I have continuity across both terminals as well as the smaller fuse of the same type next to it.
What can be the issue here?

What do you mean the Enclave drops to zero? The voltage in that?
Disconnect the battery from the terminals. What is the voltage at the battery? Can you put a battery charger on the battery (disconnected) and will it take a charge? Have your battery tested. All auto parts stores will test it.

The Enclave has the battery under the seat so under the hood are negative and positive access points. My DVOM reads almost 14 volts at idle but when I connect the jumper cables it drops to .08v. At first I thought it was the "intelligent" jumper cables so I got some "dummy" cables but the same thing happens.
The battery must be dead(er than a doornail) as it has about 6 volts and my charger won't charge it. But why then can't the Enclave power the TL when the jumper cables are connected to the TL positive and negative cables?
The Enclave just drops to zero....and I've used my Enclave to jump the wife's TSX when it sat for 3 months and the Viper alarm zapped the battery. Why can't it jump the TL?
I ended up putting a new battery in the TL and she started right up. I still don't understand why the TL interior lights, radio, headlights, horn or anything else wouldn't come on with the dead battery removed and the jumper cables connected in its stead.

The "TL" must have not wanted to be "jumped" by your Enclave.
Stranger things have been known to happen, feel fortunate that the new battery is all it took to get the TL back to normal. That, along with the fact that nothing weird resulted to your Enclave at the time. Santa was looking out for ya !

the master fuse was not blown. I am also relieved the Enclave wasn't damaged but I suspect it has some kind of protection against jumping another vehicle in a scenario that is deemed as hazardous to the donor vehicle.
I may ask the folks at Buick when the Enclave has its next service.
