Very stiff automatic shifter in cool weather
2000 Acura 3.2TL
This is a problem that has been going on since purchasing the car ~4 years ago.
In summer time and warm weather shifter moves freely between gears, i.e. from Park to Drive. When it starts cooling down outside, more and more resistance appears. The colder it is outside, the harder to move the gear shifter. So, when the car is left outside on a cool or cold night, it is extremely hard to pull it down into gear. After the car has been driven for a while and the engine warms up, it starts getting easier. Very strange...anyone else experienced this?
Thanks,
Whack

Shouldnt have any thing to do with the motor warming up. Its not conected to any thing with anything other than a cable. Maybe when the interior of the car warms up it makes it easier? You could always take it out and grease things up to see if it helps

speaking from experience... if u ever had a spilled drink i.e. coffee, soda, or juice into the shifter, this would be most likely the reason for stiff gear selection. Lower cooler temperatures will freeze/thicken the syrup making it difficult for shifter to move freely in selecting the gears. during summer it is less likely to be a problem. the solution is to remove shifter parts, clean and lubricate as fsttyms1 suggest.
