Trunk

Hello, does anyone know why I am unable to open my trunk remotely? I have a 2001 TL. I doublechecked my glove compartment to ensure that the remote trunk opening switch is turned on. A dealer mechanic does not think that the motor is bad, but he won't elaborate on the condition unless I pay him. Any insights you could provide would be most appreciated! Thanks.

If you have a 2001 TL, you should be posting this in the second generation TL forum, not the third generation.

Welcome to the forum. As 1995hoo said, this belongs in the 2G TL forum, and I am moving it there.

Different model year cars have different problems, so you will be more likely to get an answer to yours in the proper forum.

First, does your remote control work for other functions, such as lock and unlock?

If it doesn't, then you need to check the battery and/or synchronize it with the receiver to receive the commands.

Second, when you push the trunk open button on the driver side door, does the trunk open?

If yes, then the problem most likely lies with the keyless remote unit not being synchronized with the car or a dead battery.

If no, then the solenoid for opening the trunk is dead. You will have to get that replaced.

Thank you for your suggestions...the remote works fine with lock/unlock functions so the problem isn't with the remote. The door trunk open button does not work, so I am assuming that it's the solenoid. Do you think that's the only problem? What about the cable? How difficult is it to replace a solenoid? Thank you again!
