Smile Transmission solved! 2006-2007 accord tranny works great!

Well we have had the 2006-2007 Honda Accord transmission in my TL type S 2002 acura for a week now and works great! My transmission shop said it went smoothly, did the transfer of the range switch and the oil cooler filter assembly from the TL tranny as mentioned on other posts. I found a used 64K miles tranny on a 2007 Accord, got it for 750.00, and the labor and transmission oil from shop was $495.00, so at approx 1250.00 I am happy with the situation. I hope that the technology in the Honda accord transmission has had some improvements that will get a more durable transmission than the Acura problem filled Generation 2 trannys.
If interested, the shop that did it is in Danville Illinois, and is a second generation shop named Hank's Transmissions, and their number is 217-443-3091, ask for owner Hank. They have been in business for over 30 years and have a great reputation in central Illinois.

Did you do any research on the Accord transm.? Do you know it to be a more reliable unit?

Sounds like a fantastic deal.
I have 188,000 miles on my 2000 TL original engine &
tranny and this new formula of yours should prove well
in time. I hope you dont mind keeping us posted from time to time.
Thank you for posting.

seems like there were/are still tranny problems for the 03-07 accord. A lot of complaints out there.

Is it as notorious as our Acura TL 99-03 ? Just curious.

Does the accord transmission still let you shift gears in manual mode?

yes , manual shifting still works fine. We have been several weeks in the new tranny, seems very strong, crisp. Of course we were babying the old one , and now using a more normal acceleration. Will post if any problems arise.

Hmmmmm well I know a few people with the 07 accords and they haven't had any problems what so ever with there tranny. I have a 03 Tl and I'm on my 1st tranny but I was thinking about doing the cl 6speed swap that way I will never had to deal with a auto tranny going out...

I have have been a Honda tech for 6yrs and I have never seen a 06-07 accord v6 with the transmission issues as seen in the older transmissions. The most I have seen is the temp sensors go bad and sometimes the shift solenoids leak. I have seen the shift solenoids go bad but very rarely. glad to hear this worked for you. Also not to sure if youre aware but Honda moved the recommended service interval from 60k to 30k on the trans. This is very important and makes a huge difference. Use Honda ATF only. As aftermarket ATF fluid has harsh detergents in them that damage the foil in between the clutch packs, even if it says for Honda and Acura vehicles. Of course this happens over time but still not a good thing.

I'm quite interested in this swap, does the Accord tranny bolt in with the existing mounts?

What modifications were required?

Thanks so much, and good luck!

Well, I'm not so sure this will work for me. I have a 99 TL, which is a 4 speed transmission. I found that some people have used the Honda Odyssey tranny, but that seems to have the same problem! Odyssey owners have to replace their transmissions 2 and 3 times also! Not really a good swap.

What would be required to use a 2006 Accord transmission in my 99?

I would guess a 00-03 TL-P ECU and cluster. Prob need the shifter plate with the 1-2 shift and D5 position. Not sure what else...I'm interested as well.

What year odyssey transmission were people referring to? My brother had a 99 odyssey, and it too had its transmission replaced. The van was 6k over warranty, but my brother had nothing but honda's and acura's from the dealers so they replaced it free of charge.

I can back up that argument. i too replaced my trans in spring of last year with 07 AV6 trans with 76k miles and i beat the living hell out of it all year and whether its 100* or -10* it still shift smooth as butter and grips hard when you take it all the way to redline

ive also been using honda atf religiously. i highly recommend you do the same if you want yours to last

You did it? How about a DIY to share the details w/ the board? What mods, etc. it takes.

What up. Its C91BLX7 From CB7T.

But anyone who needs a transmission, id say go for these. Ive done research and looks like these are not defective.

Theres one on ebay right now for 600+ freight. 35k miles. located in NH. If anyone has the money id jump on it.

Any updates on your transmission? I live in Indianapolis and would be willing to go to Danville to get it fixed. The best price I have here is $3400 out the door, but that is for a remanufactured tranny. So at $1250 that would be a steal for me.

would this work only on a Type S or would it work on standard models as well?

I have 171k on mine, original tranny, no dealer mods or warranties. all original and still shifts pretty decently

i was just about to list the shift position indicator from my 07 AV6 trans on ebay and remembered this thread lol. ive since sold my TL but i can tell you the trans still shifts like the day i installed it. would love to buy another TL but gas prices are

i with i had did a DIY but as it was my first time in uncharted territory a DIY was the last thing in mind. Ill definatley do a DIY if i attempt this swap in the future though.

C91BLX7 ill have to check out your MR on cb7t

it works on type S also. the only "mod" needed to fit this tranny is to loop the power steering speed sensor (which isnt even need IMO)

Another major benefit to swapping the Accord V6 transmission in is that 4th gear is 9 percent shorter than the TL-S transmissions 4th gear. Much nicer for highway passing as well as normal driving at higher speeds. No more hitting a brick wall at full throttle 1st, 2nd and 3rd have identical ratios from what I understand.

Alot more work involved since te 99 tl ad a 4 speed auto. You can do it you just have to get a new ecu gauge cluster. Also maybe a new wire harness

If its just ecu and cluster, that's no a lot at all.
I checked ebay I can get both for about ~200.
I am more interested if 06/07 tranny will fit? does 00-03 tranny and 99 has same "connection" to engine ?
maybe a new wire harness
this is for new ecu ?

They both bolt up the same the problem is going from a four speed to a five speed. I know you need a new tl-p ecu and gauge cluster to make it recognize that it is a five speed. I'm not 100% percent sure if you need a new wire harness for this or not. I beleive I read somewhere that you do but I'm not sure. It'll work just a little more work involved since you got a 99 tl

Just convert to Type S at that point. A couple hundred more, same labor. Gotta replace ECU, Cluster, Tranny. I would replace the engine wire harness (you might regret the electrical work needed to modify to the wire harness. Gotta choose your battles.)

If you want a complete swap, need a new shifter/shiftgate.

So what I am gonna need:
1. new TL-p ECU from 00-03 models (what means "p" ? is it regular TL?)
2. Gauge cluster, again regular TL 00-03 models ? non TL-S
3. 06/07 Accord V6 tranny
Am I right that I do not need 3.5 TL-S engine, accord tranny just fit 99 3.2 acura tl engine ?
Probably wire harness, that's all ?

1. Yes you will a need a tl p ecu. It is the base model tl. If you get a type s ecu you can over rev your engine causing more damage because the type s had a higher redline.
2. Yes you will need the new gauge cluster so everything matches and you can see what gear your in
3. Yes
Tl type s only had a 3.2l engine in them. It will fit to your engine from what I have read, but ask all these questions in the regular section so more people can see them and also answer your questions

4th is overdrive, highway passing = 3rd gear taller OD is for fuel economy...

they are 5 gear trans, honda doesn't call it overdrive, but the last gear is overdrive for highway cruising

incorrect: Overdrive is any gear ratio that is less than 1:1 so 4th and 5th gears ARE the over drive gears on this transmission

this is 2003 CLS auto...other cars including the 3rd gen that use the 5at are similar:

1st --- 2.56
2nd --- 1.55
3rd --- 1.02
4th --- 0.65
5th --- 0.47

This is why accelleration drops off immediately upon getting into 4th gear

rebuild the 4spd with the updated kit from Honda, it will solve all of the issues with that transmission

1. internal filter is removed and replaced with a external one
2. differential bearing made from stronger steel
3. main pump pressure increased to give more lubrication to 2nd gear

I have a 2000 TL with Navi that has P0740 code flashing.
If I want to swap the 06-07 Accord tranny, what else do I need?
My mechanic said the controller is different.
Please let me know all the things I need for this swap. Will need to start gathering the parts.
Is there a different tranny for 4 cyl and 6 cyl model?
Thank you very much.
