Transmission Light came on, need help

I am in the process of upgrading my stock headunit to a Alpine CDA-9886. Right now, everything is apart in the car such as the Headunit, Heated seat button, and dash dimmer. I had a slight trouble in the install, and drove it to Myer Emco. I asked for some help, and turned the car back on and noticed the Transmission Light on. Any possible ideas? Could it be an electrical gremlin? Anyone think if I attach everything back together, the light would turn off? The car is running smooth and shifting smoothly. The car has 140k mileage, with new timing belt and recent transmission flush done to the car.

I went to autozone when I saw the light. I went and got the Diagnostic Monitor. I couldn't find the connector where the plug from the monitor attaches on. The Autozone rep told me it's near underneath the steering wheel near the accelerator. Anyone know where the connector is located?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

"malfunction indicator lamp"

So, I was researching on Google, and people said to go to Autozone to use the scan tool to get furher diagnosis. Where is the plug that fits in the connector from the scan tool. Autozone reps said it is underneath the steering wheel, near the accelerator. Anyone know where it is, or have a picture?

Thanks

if i'm not mistaken, it's in the recessed area in front of the shifter, between seat heater switches, and under the ashtray. just remove the cover by plucking it out from the top. #11

yep thats it- the little plastic plate-
just put the car in low gear for easier access to the cover- it pops right out- and there is the plug

ok, I found out my battery is dead. So I put a new one in the car. And now it is not even starting.

When I turn the key, I just hear a tick...The engine doesnt make a sound or anything. It sounds as if the noise is coming from the starter.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Let me try and use jumper cables for the new battery.

If that doesnt make the car run, anybody think this problem is related to the starter? If so, is there instructions on how to take the starter out and swap it for the new one?

Just curious, how could the starter caused the transmission light to be ON? what light indicates the transmission anyway? the TCS?

As far as I know, there IS no "transmission light". I THINK he meant that his D5 light was blinking. But that can signal any number of problems besides the transmission, like in this case, it was his starter.

Blinking D5 light will not indicate any other problems besides those related to the transmission such as internal temp sensor, VSS, solenoid failure, etc......

My light blinks intermittently and I would not be suprised if the OPs light flashing comes back. If the car drives fine, most likely the internal temp sensor, an easy fix.
