Transmission/Dealer Help
Transmission/Dealer Help
I am a newbie here that needs some help. I bought a used 03 TL in 07 with 48000 on it. Yesterday the trans started slipping and would not go in any gear. After letting it cool down I made it home but it started slipping badly again. When I got home I checked on here and found out about the tranny problems and recalls. I called Acura customer service today and they told me that the car had been in for the recall, had the 2nd gear inspected and the oil jet kit installed. and that was all that was cover under my Vin. I know from the transmission thread to go and talk to the dealer's Service Manager, but the closest dealer is 195 miles away. Is there another Acura number to call or should I try to call the Dealers Service Manger? Thanks for the help.
The recall issue is not the same as the failure issue-- which got the extended warranty for 99-03--some 03 automatically covered- some require negoitations
Did the person say anything about that to you?
How many miles on the car NOW? Its not salvage title, right?
Are you part of the 7/109K miles warranty extension? If you dont know
call acura again with your VIN, 1-800-382-2238x5 open 6am to 5 pm pacific time
register your car with acura and read there under Recalls to see if extended warranty is listed also
https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/login.asp?brand=acura
If thats all good- then ask acura 800 where the nearest place is- then call and speak with the service MANAGER there, explain the distance to them, and can they have a tech go for a ride with you, and if its trans- get you a loaner car for the week.
Thats normal.
If you are concerned it will not survive the drive- which is reasonable based on what you have described- they can send a flatbed truck for it to safely take it for repairs- no charge to you
It will help if you keep driving around it so the D5 light flashing when getting on it hard- like you were going onto the freeway- or slipping is already obvious- thats good-
You want the tech to feel and see the problem.
Smell the trans dipstick- burned? tell the Service Manager that in the 1st call.
Give specifics as needed to that person.

Now the car has 56000 miles and it is not covered by the extended warranty. The title is clear. I have not driven it again since getting it home. But you think a call to the dealer would be the best option? Thanks for the help and quick response.
being NICE to the SERVICE MANAGER is the way to go, that person can call acura regional rep and get full or mostly covered for you.
Its not like you are way out of warranty or the first gen3 with a failure!~
