Tranny failure signs .......................

I'll try to make this as short as possible. I have an 03 T.L-s w 78k. I've had a tranny failure before so this is the same warning signs i've had. When I push the car past 5k rpm (dosen't matter what gear) it cuts off(won't redline). But the worst is when i drive past 85mph it won't pull anymore and the vsa's and the cel come on. Sounds like a tranny failure but took it to the dealer an' they said misfire codes cylinders 1,2 &3. My friend says it's the throttle body sensor. The mechanic said adjust the valves and that would solve the problem! He cleared the codes and it ran fine until I pushed it past 85 an the same thing happened. They won't replace the tranny unless it has a malfunction code. Will the misfire code override the tranny failure code? help!

That isnt a tranny failure. Thats something else. If the dealer said your getting missfire codes that would be a good place to start.

Does anyone know what the over all failure rate of these transmissions are? From the way everyone talks about it, it sounds like they all have early deaths.

Its not as bad as this site makes it out to be. People who have a problem run to the internet to see how to get it fixed and low and behold they find this site. Not only that but people normally dont get on here and say "My tranny is at xxx miles and running great"

Are the valves noisy?
Start with basics
What is the last thing it did before running bad?
How are the spark plugs- remove a few and inspect
If you have a misfire you should see it in the plug
re-oil your air filter? clean the mass airflow meter

Ever since i went for my 60k dealer tune-up i've had misfire codes... first the dealer blamed my crank pulley, then told me my egr ports were clogged and I had them cleaned, my injen CAI was cleaned and re oiled, sparkplugs are fine, don't know how to check for a bad coil pack but the car didn't seem to run any different until now. Has anyone ever had to change their throttle body sensor? It used to be only in the morning where my vsa lights and cel would come on but now it always comes on.

Now its throwin' some vtec failure code & all cyl. misfires!
p0300-p0306(missfires),p01399(?),p1259(vtec system malfunction)
Another mechanic told me to do a tune up! Seems like i'm having a hard time finding a shop who gets down and dirty to tell me EXACTLY what the problem is instead of guessing! Even the dealer gave me shit telling me my UR crank pulley's causing the missfire and to put the stock one back on so they could get an accurate reading! So I need help! What I can tell you is I had the dealer 60k service @ 68k(now have 80k), new plugs, regular oil changes, recently cleaned CAI & egr ports @75k, new tranny @ 38k, DC sports headers(no leaks).

So update...3rd shop said pcm's failing so I called the dealer and they said they'd replace it up to 8yr/80k. The shop also shecked for vaccum leak/compression/coil packs/spark plugs/oil presure and it's all normal. Still throwin' misfire codes & p1259. Dealer says they want to charge diag. before they change PCM. Anyone encounter this type of problem@ 80k?

Diagnosis fee is a legal issue that allows the dealer to inspect your car
They cant write a warranty repair order until they know its a warranty problem
Once that is determined- warranty also covers the diagnosis fee

Its insurance for them too, that if they spend 2 hours finding a problem and its not warranty- then you say, I will fix it myself- they still can charge you for their time up to the $ amount you approved for diagnosis, thats just being reasonable!

As for the 60k service- that does not require much
Are you ~certain~ new plugs were installed?
And most of us like the NGK Platinum or Iridium spark plugs.

I clean my airflow meter often with special spray cleaner
You would be surprised how much stuff gets built up on the throttle plate

So update............ did the valve adj. ($500) and they told me cyl. #4 & #5 are at 12% leakage so the want to do an engine teardown to see what the cause may be(pistons/rings/gasket etc.) When I found out it was going to be 3k I told them to forget it and I'll take my chances. So far i've been driving the car for about 4 days and I haven't had any problems yet.....My car does seem slower...does that have to do with my computer not being used to my mods yet?
