Timing belt or chain ?

I have a 2002 tl with 90,000 on it.Does it have a belt or timing chain on it? How often should it be changed? Whats the average cost? Should I do other work on it while its apart..like a water pump? Thanks in advanced!

we have a rubber t-belt that calls for replacement at 7 years or 105kmiles whichever first
Always do the water pump with it!!
see the numerous 105 threads or the diy for a parts list
a dealer-vendor on here has a package deal/parts kit for 295$
aftermarket/gates will run about 200 for the essentials, plus the things listed below

change hoses and thermostat while there
Do replace all tensioners and roller pullies!

good idea to replace front crank seal
perfect time to install lightweight crank pulley for more performance

remove intake manifold and clean egr passages- due every 75kmiles- not in book - based on real life

seafoam
replace spark plugs
flush brake fluid
flush ps fluid

dealer price on 105 service- which is just the basics- $1000-1500 usd!!!
private shop 800-1200
DIY all day -if you have background in FWD timing belt job, and the lack of space
for a human hand ...with all its layers of skin intact--doesnt bother you...

a skilled tech who has done several of these and knows what bolts are where- what tools are needed and has them ready--4 hours no problem,,stories of 1.5 hours from some of our experts!!

Valve adjust never hurt- due with the 105, says `AS NEEDED`= ck each one and adjust the ones that are out of spec- always a few off just enough to mess with the performance/mileage

spark plugs: Use NGK Iridium IX for best results

car spec only allows denso and ngk (stock),,anything else makes it run bad,,,
many threads on the subject and post by ziners who switched from delco to ngk!~

so is the search feature!,, and reading down the diys- or the main thread list
also see special areas Problems, audio, yadayada for all the info you could want
Most questions have already been asked and answered 1000 times
spend some time learning from whats already here- its amazing how much there is to a TL!
