Ticking Sounds and Possible Exhaust Leak

3 problem areas that I can hear that is anbormal when the car is at Idle.

1) ticking noise in engine bay ( driver side) behind the the steering wheel fluid.
2) ticking noise in engine bay ( passenger side ) in which the sound comes from below the timing belt.
3) driver side exhaust sounds like its leaking at idle ( can hear it right at the rear-driverside wheel)

I've duplicated these problems to the service advisor and he thinks they are abnormal as well.
He said its gonna take a whole day b/c they might be taking the engine apart to adjust the valves.
Also, he said that the exhaust leaking sound could be a valve problem from the exhaust.

Anyways I hope that everything will be under warranty. I only have 36500kms from my oil change yesterday.

My car will be in on Nov. 28, I'll let you guys know what happens then

hmmmm thanks for your inputs Sam.

I just hope there is no major problem.

BTW.. the ticking noise from under the timing belt area will tick faster if the rpm is higher. I can tell b/c when i start a cold engine, the ticking is faster at about 1000rpm compared to a Warm engine at 700 rpm.

my car sounds like shit right now, but atleast its still running the same

missfiring? hmm i really don't know... maybe the injectors?

BTW... I've been using Mobile1 0w-20 for the past 6000km already, and I've got an oil change last week with mobile1 as well.

I know that the normal conventional oil is 5w-20 for our TL's, But I hope that 0w-20 wouldn't harm my engine. Atleast I know other people with their TL says its fine to use it.

It's very easy to spot exhaust leaks. Just look for black carbon soot desposits around the leaking area.

1) That would be the evap purge solenoid. It's perfectly normal. And I think you meant brake fluid, because the power steering fluid is on the passenger side.
2) I'm stumped on this one.
3) Also perfectly normal. It's more pronounced when it's cold out.

I'm surprised to hear that your dealership thought those noises (except for no.2) were abnormal. As far as I know, all 2G TLs and CLs do that.

the 3rd sounds like teh evap canister. Those are known to make noise especially when cold. the first is like you said normal, and is the purge solenoid. the 2nd one may be the tensioner making noise?

I agree 1 and 3 sound normal, my car has always done this and I thought it was strange and then I parked next to a TL at a convenience store(it was running my car was off) I heard the same sound and asked the owner if he has always heard that sounds and he said yes and Acura told him it was normal. Maybe your dealer is trying to get the some money out of you for non-warranty related issues. Maybe I am wrong, hopefully Acura would cover valve adjustments and such. #2 are you sure it's not the same ticking sound bouncing off something in the engine bay and making it sound like it's coming from passanger side or is it a different sound altogether?

I think 1) could be a normal thing b/c my other 2000TL has the same noise.

3) could be normal as well cuz i heard it from my friends TL-S, maybe the drumming noise from the driver side exhaust only occurs in TL-S's

2) i think is abosolutely abnormal. This ticking is actually louder and has a lower pitch than the ticking on the driver side. The sound is not normal at all b/c its quite loud for our stock TL-S.

The major problem is 2) in which the pudding/ticking sound comes from the passenger side. I can hear it better when the hood is close and putting my ears right beside the front-right wheel. This is why i expect the noise to be coming from under the engine.

I better ask what is cover under warranty before they fix it. Thanks for everyones inputs.

ok one of my ticking noise is fixed from the passengerside or the engine.

CAUSE: Finish from crank pulley peeling, contacting Timing Cover
CORRECTION: Cleam pulley of debris.

They haven't checked why my exhaust was making those pudding sounds yet at idle. its nothing major, but i'll ask when my next service is due.
