Thank you!
Thank you!
My son's 2001 TL was stuck in his employee parking garage with a "can't shift out of park" condition at 1 am when he got off work.
We noticed the brake lights didn't work either. So...we got on my account at the forum here and started the 'search' routines. After awhile, it became clear that the brake light circuit also shared paths with the shift-lock circuit. I knew the stop light lamps were ok as they worked seperately with the turn signals. I tried the WD40 blast but that didn't clear anything so I disconnected the switch wire socket and found the 12v on one pin in the harness socket and jumpered it to the pin for the brakelights and presto!...they worked AND the shifter came unlocked!! Had to be the brake light switch.
I found 'lokee99's thread on replacing the switch and the next day replaced the switch and adjusted it for about 1/8 " travel when the returning pedal arm contacted the switch and the arm seated to a stop. Works like a champ! Thank you for this forum and the valuable input from all you guys!!
